Position: Volunteer Resources Assistant – Summer Student

Location: Sources Volunteer Services - White Rock/South Surrey

Hours: 30 hours/week (Monday – Thursday, 8:30 am – 4:30 pm; must be available for some weekends)

We are looking for a Volunteer Services Assistant to join our Sources Volunteer Services team. This individual must be energetic, creative and passionate about bringing communities together.

SOURCES is a community-based non-profit organization that has been providing support, encouragement, and hope for individuals and families in White Rock, Surrey, Delta, Langley, Prince George, and Parksville for 40 years. Sources Volunteer Services

Sources’ Volunteer Services is designed to support social wellness for individuals and communities through volunteerism. Through our office, we provide direct services to the community to ensure health and wellness services are accessible, and support the entire organization’s mission through the strength of volunteerism.  Volunteer Services provides an excellent opportunity for a youth to explore the benefits of working in a non-profit environment, gain valuable knowledge of services available to the community and work together with the community for the health of our most vulnerable members.

Responsibilities:

1. Provide front-line client service by working with older adults to deliver service in the areas of healthcare, transportation, housing, financial and food security.
2. Assist with the development and implementation of psychoeducational workshops to engage seniors in their community, providing opportunities for seniors to self-identify interests and lead such workshops.
3. Assume a leadership role with Sources’ Community Harvest Program, working with local homeowners and farmers to redirect excess produce to community meal programs, and providing training and support to volunteers to all ages.
4. Assist with the coordination of Sources’ annual summer events, including our participation in the White Rock Torchlight Parade and others.
5. Other duties as required.

Qualifications:

• Good interpersonal communication skills including public relations, oral and written skills.
• Willingness to taken on new challenges and learn new skills in the areas of leadership, public speaking and event coordination.
• Passionate about social issues and making a direct impact in the areas of seniors’ inclusivity, community engagement, hunger solutions, decreasing food waste, and more.

• Ability to take initiative, identify urgent work items and set priorities.  Able to work independently. 

• Possess an understanding of the issues related to poverty and the ability to handle sensitive client issues with tact and non-judgement.
• Experience working with seniors and volunteers in an intercultural setting and how to promote inclusion.

• Effectively utilize Office suite including Excel, Word, Outlook and learn other data systems including Better Impact and Smartsheets.

• Ability to work some evenings and weekends.

• Valid Class 5 BC Driver's License, clean driver's record and comfortable driving (or willing to learn) a Compact Cargo Van with a trailer. 

Start Date: June 2022

Salary: $16.00 INCL
