The Canadian Association for the Performing Arts (CAPACOA) is seeking a bilingual Digital Projects Assistant / Arts Administrator to assist the Director of Research and Development with all digital and open data project needs. The role can be performed from anywhere in Canada.

 

Hourly wage rate: $15/hr

Hours per week: 35

Length of Contract: 10 weeks, offering flexible hours

Location: Remote / Work from home

 

Anticipated Start Date: June 20 (an earlier or later date can be arranged)

*This position is funded through the Canada Summer Jobs Program.

Responsibilities

  • Becoming acquainted with the findings of the action-research activities of the Linked Digital Future initiative and other open data initiatives under development.
  • Acquiring a basic understanding of key concepts related to discoverability and semantic technologies, including Wikidata and other sister projects of the Wikimedia Foundation.
  • Documenting member information as structured data in open knowledge bases such as Wikidata and CAPACOA’s connected membership database.
  • Help improve the quality and exhaustivity of venue information in Wikidata (edit existing data for quality and fill in missing data points).
  • Proactively researching and exploring innovative practices with regards to the use of digital technologies, to build creation, public engagement, marketing and other business processes.
  • Monitoring new digital initiatives in the arts sector, analyzing successes and challenges, to identify best practices and lessons learnt.
  • Participating in existing communities focused on digital innovation in the arts.
  • Preparing informative content for networking and external communication efforts.
  • Collaborating with colleagues and other organizations, developing ongoing projects, reports, and grant proposals.
  • Regularly reporting on daily projects and tasks
  • Attend weekly team meetings

Other tasks/projects may include:

  • Assisting the International Engagement Program with digital discoverability initiatives and data sharing.
  • Aiding other CAPACOA projects as needed 

General Requirements

  • Meet Canada Summer Jobs requirements
  • Preferred level of education: Post secondary
  • Excellent communication skills, verbal and written, in both official languages.
  • Strong writing skills and an ability to express fresh, engaging ideas in copy.
  • Experience working with (or willingness to learn) digital communications tools, including email, websites, blogs, social media, standard office software including the Microsoft Office Suite, Google Suite.
  • Enthusiastic team-player who is able to juggle multiple/competing priorities
  • An understanding (or willingness to learn) about digital initiatives and open data,  and the role it plays in 21st century arts practices.
  • An interest in the performing arts and/or not-for-profit sector.
