Job Overview:  

The Family Learning Program assists parents in their development of positive parenting skills to foster healthy parent child relationships. Through home visits, community outreach and group programming, participants are supported to make healthy choices for themselves and their children and to develop their capacity to effectively meet the needs of their children.  

The Program Supervisor, Family Learning Program (West FRN and Housing), is responsible for direct supervision of front-line staff that are providing services to young parents. This includes support to maintain healthy boundaries with families, promoting positive and significant relationships with families and cultivating and open and positive team environment that fosters shared learning. This position includes oversight of Terra Centre’s housing programs that support families to secure safe, affordable housing.  This position is responsible for overseeing the achievement of participant goals and funder outcomes, and the agency’s mission and values, and works closely with co-supervisors to share the responsibilities to the agency and funders and ensure the team has consistent and effective support and oversight. 

Job Conditions:  

The Program Supervisor position is permanent full time (37.5 hours/week) with flexible hours to work 8:30 AM to 4:30 PM, Monday through Friday, and some evening and occasional weekend based on the needs of families and staff and to support programming.  The position will be working out of the Terra Centre main office located at 10320-146 Street and the Brentwood Housing Complex located in West Edmonton.

Key Responsibilities:  

  • Provide leadership, supervision, coaching and mentorship to the team delivering the Family Outreach programs and services to ensure resources are directed and focused on the empowerment of and achievement of goals for the participants. 
  • Responsible to ensure full and thorough assessment and screening of participants requesting program services and/or housing through Terra programs
  • Ensure the direction, content, conduct and quality of program services aligns with program funding and agency evaluation plan expectations. 
  • Complete data analysis and reporting requirements to ensure continuity in funding.  
  • Provide quality assurance monitoring and oversight to ensure the programs and services reflect the agency vision and values. 
  • Work with others to improve the knowledge and responsiveness of community institutions, groups and individuals regarding Terra’s mission and strengths of young families. 
  • Ensure effective financial management of the program and adherence to the agency budget. 
  • Member of the supervisory team responsible to ensure participants receive ethical and consistent support across program areas 

Qualifications:  

  • A diploma or degree in human services
  • Minimum of 3 years previous supervisory experience in a community-based setting 
  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience working with youth and expertise in assessing participant strengths and assisting youth to build healthy support networks 
  • Strong skill sets related to developing, supporting, coaching, guiding, and evaluating staff 
  • In depth understanding of the needs and issues related to youth exposed to vulnerable life circumstances 
  • Understanding of the unique needs of young fathers 
  • Strong verbal and written skills with the ability to gather and synthesize data to prepare funder reports 
  • Experience working with community partners and funders 

Knowledge and Abilities:  

  • Demonstrated supervisory and leadership abilities and an effective problem solver 
  • Ability to share opposing viewpoints and work towards collective solutions 
  • Scheduling, priority setting and good time management skills 
  • Ability to work in collaboration with co-supervisors to ensure continuity in employee support and program accountability 
  • Team building expertise and ability to contribute to a positive, healthy work environment 
  • Capacity to share knowledge about young and teen parent families with a particular emphasis on fathering 
  • Evaluation knowledge and ability to use data in supervision of staff and for funder reporting 
  • Financial management skills

Other requirements:  

  • A valid driver’s license and a reliable vehicle with 2 million liability insurance, and occasional transport of participants and their children.  
  • Current clear Drivers Abstract 
  • Ability to work flexible hours  
  • Clear Criminal Record Check and Child Intervention Check that are dated within 90 Days of the start date

Salary: The salary range for the position is $52 000-$58 000/year.  Upon completion of a probationary period, we offer a comprehensive, competitive, extended health benefits package including RRSP contribution.  A Wellness Fund is allocated to staff to support their ongoing well-being.  Staff have three weeks vacation, and, in addition, the agency is closed between Christmas and New Years.
