Position: Employment Services Coordinator

Hours of work: 35 hours per week (full-time)

Start date: As soon as possible

Reports to: Employment Services Manager

Rate of Pay: $30.18 per hour (benefits after successful completion of probation period)

The Inter-Cultural Association of Greater Victoria (ICA) helps immigrants and refugees meet their social, cultural, and economic goals. Comprised of dedicated staff and volunteers, ICA provides language instruction, support finding housing and employment and a range of other services. In addition, ICA is actively engaged in the community to strengthen connections between immigrants and those born in Canada. Job description

Ensures that clients are provided with appropriate resources to support multiple specialized employment programs, when needed; and responsible for providing one-on-one support, small group settlement employment services, and workshops. Demonstrated knowledge in the areas of federal /provincial specialized employment programs, and all aspects of career counselling and case management. Develops and facilitates groups in employment related workshops. This is a multifaceted position and requires an individual that is able to balance superior client service with other responsibilities, such as monitoring and providing support to program staff as well as other employment program staff when needed. Serves all individuals, including BIPOC, LGBTQ2+ and Indigenous, and those with diverse abilities. Reports to the Employment Services Manager.

Qualifications

  • Undergraduate degree and professional courses on employment-related themes or combination of education, training, and experience (e.g. business administration, employment counselling, career development, intercultural studies).
  • Three years’ recent related work experience in similar environment, within social services, not-for-profit, and/or multicultural environment.
  • Solid knowledge of federally/provincially funded specialized employment programs, Canadian and local labour market, workplace practices, and job search strategies.
  • Three years’ direct experience as an employment counsellor or supervisor.
  • Proven ability to work effectively and achieve results with individuals with specialized needs and multi-barriers to employment.
  • Keen understanding of diversity issues to work with persons from diverse populations with different cultural, ethnic, religious, and linguistic or Indigenous backgrounds on employment related issues.
  • Established relationships with local employers and the community.
  • Experience working with immigrants and refugees and an understanding immigration issues.
  • Supervisory experience in a unionized environment is preferred.
  • Proficiency in a settlement and/or resettlement language preferred.
  • Indigenous cultural competencies and/or lived experience with Indigenous communities welcomed.
  • Employment requires proof of full vaccination status or exemption documentation.

Key duties/responsibilities

  • Provides leadership, knowledge, and support to employment services staff in specialized programs, and other employment program staff when needed.
  • Provides one-on-one support, and small group settlement employment services and workshops.
  • Leads employment team meetings and case conferencing in conjunction with Employment Services Manager.
  • Attends Manager/Coordinator meetings and provides updates on the Employment Program.
  • Provides input on staff performance to the Employment Services Manager.
  • Assumes responsibility for Employment Services in the absence of the Employment Services Manager.
  • Provides administrative and technical assistance to the Employment Services Manager and team members with data management systems, including IIPS, ICM, OCMS, CIMS, SharePoint and program policies and procedures.
  • Provides facilitation in employment related training workshops, orientations, and short-term life skills program.
  • Steps in as Immigrant Employment Specialist/Youth Specialist or Facilitator as needed.
  • Participates in employment-related training opportunities to stay current on issues impacting ICA’s clients.
  • Creates awareness of anti-oppressive/social justice issues.
  • Uses technology and technological systems effectively.
  • Participates in regular team and organization-wide staff meetings.
  • Follows all ICA policies and administrative procedures.
  • Other related duties as assigned.

Additional Information

  • Some travel to community locations within Vancouver Island may be required. Occasional travel to locations in other parts of British Columbia and/or Canada for purposes like professional development, networking, or conferences may also be required.
  • Some work outside of regular office hours, including evenings and weekends, will be required. Flex time schedules will be made to accommodate non-regular work hours. All overtime must be approved in advance.
  • Valid BC driver’s license and access to a car would be an asset.
  • As a condition of hire, a current, clear criminal record check, including vulnerable populations check, and proof of WHMIS training are required.
