Frontline Community Centre (FCC) is a non-profit organization designed to provide an array of support programs for under-served individuals within the Scarborough North and Markham South community.

 

Job Description:

FCC is looking for an enthusiastic Youth Worker for our "Stronger, Resilient and Inclusive Communities" project, with partner agencies to combat hate-motivated crimes. The goal of this project is to provide a safe and welcoming environment for minority and at-risk youth to come together and learn self-defenses to improve self-confidence, actively participate in discussions on well-being with experienced guest speakers, provide networking opportunities, and group activities on how they can play a role in preventing hate crimes in our communities’ while being each other's support systems.

 

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Provide advocacy, support, and mentoring to youth who have experienced or witnessed the hate crime in school, community, or any other set up
  • Use a developmentally as well as culturally appropriate and trauma-informed response
  • Outreach to the local community and organizations to bring awareness of hate-motivated crimes
  • Identify and address hate-motivated crimes experienced by individuals within the community
  • Providing a safe and welcoming environment for individuals to report hate-motivated crimes and providing them with the necessary support and resources
  • Lead youth groups that support the anti-violence mindset and combat hate-motivated crimes to improve outcomes for youth safety overall
  • Liaison with partner agencies to deliver services, information sessions, and life skills groups that are age-appropriate and support the desired outcomes of the program
  • Provide youths with resources, recreations, counselling, referrals, and advocacy services within our community
  • Liaise with participants, parents, schools, co-workers, and volunteers
  • Maintain positive relationship and interact with various segments of the community including Toronto Police 42 Division, partner agencies, neighborhood, and community organizations
  • Be a positive mentor and adult role model
  • Organize community meetings and events in partnership with community partners
  • Creating weekly reports on program updates, evaluations, statistical reports, promotional material, and other duties as assigned

Skills and Qualifications:

  • Post-Secondary Degree in Child/youth-related field (e.g. Child and Youth, Social Service Worker, Social Worker, Psychology, Sociology) or the equivalent combination of education and experience working with youth
  • 3-5 years experience working with youth from diverse backgrounds
  • Previous experience with program design, implementation, and workshops facilitation
  • Previous experience in managing project, keeping track of finance, and writing reports
  • Experienced in keeping data and statistics, presentation, evaluation, and assessment
  • Outstanding interpersonal and communication skills with a strong sense of empathy and compassion
  • Optimistic, enthusiastic, with a can-do attitude and a strong ability to motivate others
  • High levels of creativity, initiative, flexibility, and responsiveness skills
  • Strong organizational and decision-making skills
  • Analytical, problem-solving, and conflict resolution skill
  • Criminal Background Check

Contract length: 12 months

Part-time hours: 14 per week
