Van Attendant


Under the direction of the Day Program Supervisor and supported by the Day Program Coordinator in day-to-day decision making, the Van Attendant will actively assist clients on and off the CCD van ensuring client safety and participates effectively as a member of the Community Care Durham staff team.


Responsibilities include but are not limited to:


  • Provides safe, courteous, door to door service for clients
  • Provides client supervision as appropriate and alerts the Day Program staff of any concerns
  • Assists clients with ambulation and transfers on/off the CCD van
  • Seats ADP clients while ensuring that all safety measures are taken for vehicle transportation (i.e., fastening seatbelt)
  • Monitors client schedules for cancellations, last minute additions, etc.,
  • Communicates with care partners and sharing any information with DP staff


Qualifications required:


  • Secondary education in Recreation, Personal Support Worker, or related field
  • Minimum 1 year experience working with people with disabilities, physical challenges, etc.,
  • Current Emergency First Aid Certificate CPR C & AED required
  • Current immunization record (TB test completed within the past 12 months) is required upon hire
  • A solid working knowledge of Alzheimer’s diseases/Dementia
  • Sensitivity to the needs of the elderly and persons with disabilities
  • Satisfactory Police Vulnerable Sector Check
  • Sensitivity to adults with needs related to aging, physical and/or mental health
  • Adherence to COVID-19 safety practices including two doses of COVID-19 Vaccine (where medically able in accordance with our Immunization Policy)
  • Must work in a safe manner and promote the health and safety of all staff, volunteers, clients and the community as outlined within CCD policies



Compensation: Starting at $17 per hour, plus 4% vacation pay 

* Pay will be commensurate based on education and experience
