This position is limited by your imagination. We are looking for someone to join our dynamic team who can not only cook but also work with our volunteers and our staffing team. Overtime we hope to grow this role.

Job Title: Kitchen Coordinator

Job Summary: Reporting to the Executive Director, the Kitchen Coordinator is responsible for planning, implementing, maintaining, and evaluating a safe and appealing food service program. This is a 25 hour a week position that works Tuesday to Saturday. $19 an hour to start

Primary Duties and Responsibilities:

Ø Maintain cleanliness of the kitchen to the highest standards.

Ø Focus on the production of food items using healthy, fresh ingredients, limiting use of any pre-prepared or processed food items.

Ø Plan and produce fresh baked goods, sandwiches, and coffee daily.

Ø Plan and produce hot meals and Grab and Go meals according to schedule.

Ø Plan and produce meals that can be frozen and sold as requested.

Ø Plan and produce special event menus along with the Program Manager.

Ø Plan and produce food for renters when required.

Ø Shop for food and needed supplies.

Ø Develop alternatives for those with special dietary needs.

Ø Coordinate and expand food distribution program.

Ø Develop, coordinate, and evaluate Community Kitchen.

Ø Plan and maintain food and equipment budget according to ED/Board directives.

Ø Train, supervise, and schedule volunteers with the Volunteer Coordinator.

Ø Ensure volunteers can manage the kitchen when the Kitchen Coordinator is away.

Ø Delegate tasks to volunteers to ensure they remain busy and engaged.

Ø Provide monthly written report to the Board of Directors and attend BOD meetings as requested.

Ø Participate in Kitchen Committee.

Ø Provide opportunities for volunteers to use and expand their cooking and baking skills.

Other Duties and Responsibilities:

Ø Assist in ensuring a welcoming environment for members, volunteers, visitors, and staff.

Ø Open and/or close facility as needed.

Ø Respond to building emergencies as needed and complete appropriate incident reports.

Ø Assist in preparing rooms for rentals, meetings, courses, and activities.

Ø Perform First Aid/CPR and complete incident reports as necessary.

Ø Assist in keeping Centre neat, tidy, and welcoming for visitors.

Skills and Abilities

Ø Extensive food planning and preparation experience including special dietary requirements such as heart health, diabetic, gluten-free, vegetarian, and halal.

Ø Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

Ø Ability to train, manage, and evaluate students and volunteers.

Ø Ability to operate basic computer software such as Microsoft Office.

Ø Ability to problem solve and prioritize.

Ø Possess excellent time management skills.

Ø Possess excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Ø Ability to keep accurate records.

Requirements

Ø Relevant training and education

Ø Prior experience working in the non-profit sector desirable.

Ø Prior experience working with seniors desirable.

Ø Access to vehicle for shopping and current relevant level BC driver’s license.

Ø Food Safe Level 2

Ø Current criminal check including vulnerable persons check

Ø Current Standard First Aid certificate with CPR level C with AED training

Ø Current with Covid vaccinations/boosters

Job Types: Part-time, Permanent

Salary: From $19.00 per hour

COVID-19 considerations:
We continue to follow health guidelines. Masks are currently optional in our main building but are mandatory in the Wellness Centre.
