JOB OVERVIEW

The Gift & Estate Administration Manager is responsible for overseeing the administration and management of the Quebec Estate portfolio for the Canadian Cancer Society. The Manager reports to the National Director, Estate & Gift Planning and acts as subject matter expert for gift and estate matters in Quebec.

 

WHAT YOU’LL BE DOING: 

  • Reviews and administers estates, including financial statements and life insurance policies. 
  • Maintains estate files and database records for statistical, audit and program needs.
  • Collaborates with other departments (e.g. Finance, Donor Services) to ensure the consistent  operation of the database and implementation of process improvements.
  • Make determinations about estate (simple, complex)
  • Collaborates with National colleagues in synchronization of estate administration process.
  • Deal with matters regarding contested estates, including communication with other beneficiary charities, recommending escalation to Director, external lawyers, track all outstanding cases, adjust tracking sheets, Sales force.
  • Represent the Canadian Cancer Society on legal and contentious estate issues and decides when to escalate to the Director, Planned giving and outside counsel or other professional advisors. 
  • Prepares releases and other legal documents for execution by the Canadian Cancer Society’s appointed signing officer.
  • Maintains current knowledge of trends, legal requirements, tax aspects of charitable gifts and revenue rulings affecting such gifts.
  • Actively contribute to our culture of justice, equity, diversity, and inclusion by encouraging dialogue that respectfully considers a wide variety of ideas, opinions, and suggestions. 


  QUALIFICATIONS:
 

  • Completed post-secondary education as well as 5 plus years of relevant experience, or a combination of education and experience
  • Estate administration experience in a non-profit environment preferred
  • Successful completion of Estate Law Clerk course or having an estates related professional designation preferred;
  • Trust and Estate Practitioner certification preferred
  • Experience in a CRM environment, preferably Sales Force
  • Proficiency in MS Office
  • Bilingualism is required (French and English)
