Chief Operations Officer
Mamas for Mamas
Thompson & Okanagan
Kelowna
closes in 6 days (Fri, 1 Jul)
full time

Mamas for Mamas is a national charitable organization that supports mothers and caregivers in crisis by providing ongoing support to individuals and families facing various poverty-related struggles. While our name is Mamas for Mamas, we welcome caregivers and colleagues of any gender identity or expression, including men, trans*, non-binary, and two-spirit. The most recent statistics from Citizens for Public Justice reports that a staggering 5.8 million people in Canada (or 16.8%) live in poverty ( https://cpj.ca/poverty-trends-2018/). We are committed to giving a hand up, not just a hand out to those struggling by providing them with essential needs. We are actively engaging with multiple levels of government and non-profit agencies; together we are working to change the systems that contribute to the vicious cycle of poverty, mental health issues, housing, and food insecurity and have recently expanded digitally across Canada.

The Chief Operations Officer (COO) is responsible to lead the strategic growth, high impact programming and financial success of Mamas For Mamas.  As the leader of the Executive Staff Team, the COO reports directly to the Board of Directors.  Together with the Board of Directors, the COO is responsible for carrying out the mission of the organization, including development and implementation of the organization's long term strategy, budget and business plan.

Leading with a collaborative and innovative approach, the COO drives the positive, high performing culture at Mamas for Mamas, promoting a healthy, safe, inclusive, equitable and diverse workplace whose employees and volunteers behave respectfully and professionally among each other; among stakeholders who support the organization; and among the individuals served by the organization.

The COO acts as an ambassador of the organization, shared with the Founder and Chief Vision Officer/Director of National Development, appropriately representing Mamas for Mamas with the public, business, media, Government and donors. Together with the Board, they will assess the suitability and sustainability of scaling the organization to meet the increasing demand for its services.

The COO oversees the administration, programs, fundraising and strategic plan of the organization. The successful candidate will ensure the financial health and growth of the charity, as well as work with the board and staff to ensure that the mission is fulfilled through high impact program delivery and focused community outreach.

Our ideal candidate has five or more years of senior non-profit management experience, is mission-centred, strategic and process-minded, with an understanding of how to effectively scale a value-based organization.  They are able to develop a high performing culture and implement effective HR,  information management, financial and administrative practices and systems.

As a colleague, we are looking for someone who is a relationship-builder and team supporter, an exceptional communicator and a role model for ethics and leadership. We are a flat operating structure, so the right candidate must be able to move seamlessly from rolling up their sleeves and pitching in – to presenting to our board or our donors.

This is a tremendous opportunity for a senior executive to maximize and strengthen the internal capacity of a well-respected, high-impact organization. We are an equal opportunity employer and welcome applications from all equity-seeking groups including visible minorities, people with disabilities and women.

If you want to make a difference in the lives of children and families nation-wide, we want to hear from you.
