HR Assistant

THE ROLE

The HR Assistant supports the Operations and People department and will be responsible for the day-to-day tasks of the HR Department which include but are not limited to managing the accurate record keeping of the databases, supporting the existing recruitment strategy, and various aspects of the employment cycle, and liaising with various departments to help with the timely execution of HR functions.

WHAT WE OFFER

 

Location: Remote (preferably close to one of our operating areas: Vancouver Island, Vancouver, Canmore, Toronto, Minden)

Starting Rate: $17.50/hour

Term: 8 Weeks Contract Term (35 hours per week)

Benefits: Health Care Spending Account (HCSA) and Employee Assistance Plan

Supervisor: HR Manager

OPPORTUNITY FOR IMPACT

  • Provide day-to-day administration support including data entry and reporting, and managing the accurate record keeping of the database. 
  • Assist with recruitment and various aspects of the employment life cycle, and liaise with various departments to help with the timely execution of HR functions.
  • Prepare and post job advertisements, screen applications, schedule interviews, correspond with candidates, and other general recruitment administrative activities.
  • Maintain current HR files and databases, including the collection of certifications, and other required documentation.
  • Assist with the review of policy and procedures to ensure organization-wide compliance, and recommend changes to policies and procedures/programs.
  • Provide thoughtful insight and ideas to support staff development and organizational growth. 
  • Assist with data collection and employee satisfaction surveys.
  • Update the Company intranet as needed.
  • Support other HR functions as assigned.

REQUIREMENTS

  • Clear Vulnerable Sector check
  • ​​Post-Secondary education in Human Resources or relevant discipline.
  • Strong knowledge of office procedures and practices.
  • Professional at all times and maintain utmost confidentiality of employee information and records.
  • Must be able to problem-solve and work independently.
  • Excellent attention to detail and data entry skills.
  • High level of discretion and judgment when dealing with confidential information.
  • Effective communication skills with individuals at all levels of the organization.
  • Strong work ethic and positive team attitude.
  • Effective time-management skills with the ability to meet deadlines, and achieve targets in a team environment.
  • Strong understanding of topics related to diversity, equity, and inclusion. 
  • Strong interest in connecting with nature, experiential education, and environmental issues.
  • Good understanding of and interest in the outdoor industry.
  • Passion, personal alignment, and commitment to the mission of Outward Bound Canada.

Assets:

  • 2+ years’ experience in an Administrative role preferred.
  • Knowledge of Advanced Tracker and Salesforce systems.
