What you’ll be doing:

For 30 years, Momentum has been offering integrated skills training programs to empower adults living on a low-income to get a career-track job. Our suite of training programs are related to the technology sector and pre-apprenticeship trades.

 

Our programs are currently expanding, and we are looking for a casual instructor to teach life/workplace skills and support career navigation for adults in our technology and trades training programs. While your schedule may vary from month to month depending on the programs we have running, we anticipate approximately 12-15 hours/week required for this role. Most facilitation will be in person, but Momentum is cultivating a blended learning approach and you can expect to also facilitate workshops online/virtually.

 

Key areas of responsibility:

  • Instruction of Momentum’s job search, communication for the workplace, and essential skills for the workplace curriculum, including:
    • Communication and life/essential skills required to be successful in academic and work settings, such as problem solving, resilience and self-care, conflict resolution, etc.
    • Job search process and networking skills, development of an employment profile (resume, cover letter, references, LinkedIn), and interview skills.
  • Program administration, including communication with students and meetings with program staff
  • Communicate participant progress and attendance with program staff and collaborate with the team to identify and provide any additional support participants may need.
  • Participate in planning and consultative meetings with department staff as needed.

  • Is a dynamic instructor and facilitator and has experience teaching adults the career and life skills they need to successfully thrive in employment.
  • Brings adult-learning principles into the classroom and creates a safe learning environment for participants.
  • Is adaptable to multiple learning environments (in-person and virtual) and responsive to learner needs.

 

What you will need to do the job well:

  • Minimum of 3 years of experience as a facilitator, instructor, or teacher.
  • Experience working with equity seeking groups (e.g., Newcomers, Indigenous learners etc.)
  • Experience with program evaluation, classroom management, and individualized/group learning support.
  • Excellent presentation, interpersonal, written, and oral communication skills within in-person and online environments.
  • Experience with and/or certification in virtual learning is an asset, specifically D2L Brightspace learning platform (this is the platform Momentum uses).
  • Qualification/certification in career counselling/coaching or another related profession is an asset.
  • Your own laptop, strong internet connection, web camera etc. for online facilitation.
