Agriculture Assistant and Public Awareness Ambassador

Wage: $16.50 per hour

Full time: 35 hr/week

Temporary 8-week term

Location: Abbotsford, BC

Job Summary:

You will mainly act as our Compost Demonstration Garden maintenance person. This will include weeding, watering, crop production and harvesting, and maintenance of composters. Duties will also include attending public education and public events on weekends.

Your Role:

Archway’s Agricultural Assistant and Public Awareness Ambassador with the Abbotsford Mission Recycling Program contributes by:

  • Conducting weeding, watering, pest control, up-keep and maintenance of composters.
  • Assisting with crop production, seeding, greenhouse starts, transplanting, crop rotations, weeding and invasive plant control.
  • Assisting with public education in the areas of compost-related activities.
  • Assisting with public event planning, set-up and take-down, and social media upkeep.
  • Providing information to the public about the local Recycling Program and environmental issues.

This position is a great fit for someone who has an interest in horticulture/agriculture and the environment. 

 

NOTE: This position is being offered by the Canada Summer Jobs Program, so applicants must be between the ages of 15 and 30, be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or person to whom refugee protection has been conferred, and be legally entitled to work in Canada.   

Our Offer

Getting an Interview – you will be considered if you have:

  • Experience in gardening and backyard composting.
  • Experience in public speaking.
  • Education in Science leading towards a diploma or degree in horticulture/floriculture/agriculture is preferred.
  • Eligibility for the Canada Summer Jobs Program.

The Job Requires you to:

  • Be able to work outdoors in all weather.
  • Have a valid Driver’s license and the use of a personal vehicle.
  • Be flexible to work statutory holidays, weekends and evenings, as required.
  • Be physically fit and be able to work in a hands-on industrial and outdoor all weather environment.
  • Maintain a satisfactory Criminal Record Check as a condition of employment.
