Foundry Works is an employment service within Foundry Prince George, an integrated health and social service hub for young people ages 12-24.  Alongside partners, Foundry Prince George offers access mental health care, substance use services, primary care, social services, and youth and family peer supports.  Foundry Prince George is part of a larger provincial network.  The Foundry Works program provides flexible, wraparound services to young people who are not currently involved in education, employment, or training to find work, further their education, and meet personal goals.

The Job Developer/ Employment Specialist will build and maintain relationships with employer partners and work directly with young people who experience barriers to employment to take steps towards their employment and education goals.  The position functions as part of an integrated, multi-disciplinary team.

Responsibilities and abilities

  • Identify, build, and maintain relationships with a broad range of employer partners to provide opportunities for youth with support and accessibility needs in the workplace
  • Work with employer partners and other stakeholders to develop curriculum and content that meets employer needs/ wants and supports successful employment
  • Maintain comprehensive knowledge of employment trends, needs, and gaps to support employment and education opportunities for youth
  • Maintain comprehensive knowledge of education and training options for youth with support and accessibility needs and help youth to access
  • Identify volunteer opportunities that further employment and education goals
  • Build positive, trusting relationships with diverse youth, including those who face barriers to participation, as well as local partners and employers
  • Provide employment support one on one and in small groups
  • Inform and support development and monitoring of individualized service plans
  • Job placement and ongoing employment support; troubleshoot individual and systemic issues with participants, employer partners, and relevant supports
  • Case management including outreach, advocacy, resource referral, and follow-up
  • Workshop development and facilitation
  • Perform administrative tasks, ensuring accurate and timely records and reporting
  • Work effectively as part of the integrated Foundry team and other relevant services and supports
  • Ensure consistent and clear communication with participants, employers, and other stakeholders
  • Develop a thorough understanding of the program delivery model and resources
  • Participate in quality assurance procedures and evaluation


  • Post-secondary degree in a relevant field or specialized training/ employment practitioner designation or equivalent combination of education, training, and experience
  • Minimum 2 years of experience in the employment sector, preferably in a job developer role and/ or with populations facing barriers to employment
  • Knowledge of integrated placement support (IPS) an asset
  • Passion for and ability to work effectively with diverse youth
  • Understanding of the impacts of colonization and residential schools on Indigenous peoples
  • Personal understanding of and alignment with the mission, vision, strategic outcomes, and values of the YMCA
  • Ability to engage and motivate
  • Excellent interpersonal, organizational, and communication skills
  • Proven ability to develop and maintain effective cooperative relationships
  • Commitment to social inclusion; able to respond sensitively and with personal awareness to the diverse needs of participants, including those with barriers to participation
