POSITION SUMMARY

Strides Toronto is seeking a highly strategic and dynamic leader to join their team as their new Director, Finance and Administration, reporting to the Sr. Director, Corporate Services. The successful candidate will have a strong background in non-profit finances coupled with a forward thinking, innovative mindset that embraces technology to streamline processes. The successful candidate is a highly skilled strategic leader who has the ability to lead, develop others and action change within their dept (two direct and 11 indirect reports) and organization and has an interest in the mission of Strides.  

 

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES

  • Provides strategic leadership, vision and direction for the financial functions of the organization including all financial accounting, reporting and analysis, and review of funding requirements. 
  • Provides leadership and oversight to all financial planning and reporting functions of the organization to ensure achievement of financial targets and maintain/enhance the organization’s financial well-being.
  • Identifies opportunities to utilize technology and automation to improve the efficiency of financial processes while ensuring accountability.
  • Prepares and presents quarterly financial reports to the Finance and Audit Committee and Board of Directors.
  • Provide leadership and oversight for the management of the organization’s facilities and administrative functions to ensure an efficient and safe environment for employees, clients and all other stakeholders.
  • Leads, provides direction, coaching and mentoring to departmental staff and managementand identifies areas for training and development opportunities.
  • Provide business and financial advice to other members of the management and senior management teams, Board of Directors, and other stakeholders across the organization to achieve the organization’s vision, strategic goals and objectives.
  • Leads the development of financial policies and procedures and to simplify and automate financial processes that are efficient, timely and accurate for the organization.
  • Drives continuous process improvements to ensure efficient use of financial resources and effective use of technology.

THE SUCCESSFUL CANDIDATE WILL HAVE

  • Post-secondary degree in finance, business administration or similar/related discipline. 
  • Professional accounting designation required.
  • Experience working in the not-for-profit sector and/or public sector.
  • Five-six years of progressively held roles in finance combined with one-two years of management experience.
  • Demonstrated experience with non-profit accounting standards and public sector accounting and reporting at a senior level.
  • Leadership experience to supervise, mentor and coach direct reports in keeping with sound human resource management practices, in order to build and maintain a healthy and productive work environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to interact positively with all levels of the organization including the providing strategic advice and expertise to senior management, Finance and Audit Committee and Board of Directors.
  • Demonstrated ability to accurately assess and adapt behaviour to situations involving cultural and other perceived differences. 
  • A successful track record in setting priorities; keen analytic, organization and problem-solving skills which support and enable sound decision-making.
  • Excellent communication and relationship building skills with an ability to prioritize, negotiate, and work with a variety of internal and external stakeholders.
  • Strong proficiency of computer and various software applications including accounting programs, MS Office (Excel, Outlook, Word), Zoom.
  • Full understanding of ministry direction, sector players and key stakeholders, including government policies, legislation and regulations.
  • Awareness of the role of diversity, equity and inclusion in the workplace and within the community being served by the position.
  • An understanding of Anti-Black Racism, anti-oppressive/anti-racism perspective in the context of the social determinants of health.
  • Knowledge of the cultural diversity of communities served by the agency.
