The Position:

In support of the Vision, Mission and Values of LutherCare Communities, and with funding from Canada Summer Jobs, we are seeking an Administrative Assistant to join our team. This position would report directly to the Chief People Officer to provide day-to-day administrative support that would include:

  • Schedule Management
  • Creating and setting up meetings
  • Creating PowerPoint presentations
  • Payroll/timesheet administration
  • Developing meeting agenda's and taking meeting minutes
  • Drafting and sending out business correspondence
  • Project work (including utilizing MS Excel to work with data and statistical tracking)

Hours of Work: This position is scheduled Monday to Friday.

The Location:  This position is located at Luther Senior's Centre which is our day program supporting seniors living with dementia.

Accountabilities:

  1. Participant Programming:
    1. Support the Day Program Coordinator in the development of recreation programs and events such as baking, sing-a-longs, exercises, holidays, reminiscence etc.
    2. Facilitate recreation programs and resident participation in activities
    3. Assist participants upon arrival and departure from the program
  2. Participant Care:
    1. Treat participants with empathy, dignity, and respect
    2. Accommodate participants’ personal choices
    3. Maintain professional relationships with participants and their families
    4. Assist participants only with that which they are unable to complete on their own, to help support independence
    5. Utilize individual participant information to provide a high standard of care
    6. Support toileting if needed
    7. Assist in clothing and personal care product management
    8. Supports residents in bladder/bowel management programs
  3. Working Environment:
    1. Actively participate in team, staff, and program meetings
    2. Offer input for purposes of activity/care planning
    3. Communicates information regarding participants to team members to facilitate continuity of care
    4. Interacts with co-workers in a respectful, co-operative manner
    5. Participates in maintaining a clean and safe environment
    6. Meets and interacts with participants’ families in a kind, courteous manner in order to instill confidence in the day program
  4. Other:
    1. Maintain accurate records and confidentiality
    2. Participate in self-evaluation process (ie: performance reviews)
    3. Attend compulsory educational sessions
    4. Utilize provided literature for self-education purposes
    5. Good attendance required
    6. Abide by Luther Care Communities Policies and Procedures
    7. Complete other job-related tasks as assigned

Qualifications:

Applicants would typically qualify for this position by having education in a related field (i.e.: Therapeutic Recreation) or minimum two years’ experience working with geriatrics and dementia care. Applicants must possess good interpersonal skills and be able to read, write, understand and speak English fluently.
