Role: Follow-Up Worker

Every year, 1,200 children stay at Kids Kottage. Kids Kottage Foundation aims to make a difference, not only today, for children and their support systems, but also for tomorrow, by promoting social change in our current complex world.

The Opportunity:

Kids Kottage Foundation is recruiting for a Follow Up Worker.  The Follow Up Worker is responsible for providing family systems timely and effective support and assistance, connecting to resources, increasing well-being, and resiliency. This also includes the integration of cultural and spiritual practices.

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Provide assessments, referrals, group facilitation, case management, and consultations in a responsive environment.
  • Assists caregivers to create a nurturing, responsive and safe environment for their infants and children
  • Assists caregivers to find resources and support to develop strategies which facilitates a continuum of care within the community, and familial systems identifying referral resources
  • Attends community interagency meetings, identifies trends and suggests programs for Kids Kottage
  • Advocates on behalf of clients where needed
  • Maintains comprehensive and appropriate documentation and generates monthly program reports
  • Stays abreast of all relevant and current legislation
  • Decision-making:
  1. Creates a map of relevant, stable community resources to support the Kids Kottage clients.
  2. Determines families who are facing significant barriers and require community case consults
  3. Identifies community agencies for educational sessions

Qualifications:

  • Post-secondary education in Social Work and registration through ACSW is required
  • Experience in human social services delivery
  • Experience working with or knowledge of Indigenous communities and culture will be considered an asset
  • Excellent public speaking and networking skills
  • Will be a self-starter who applies energy, vision, and flexibility to his/her work
  • Must provide and maintain current clear CYIM and Police Criminal Record checks
  • Has valid Class 5 driver’s license and can provide driving abstract

                                         

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Knowledge of solution-focused counseling, motivational interviewing, the theory of change, Adverse Childhood Experiences, Brain Story, family violence, trauma-informed practices, Foundations of the Caregiver Support, Looksee checklist, ASQ3, ACES to PACES, Circle of Support and able to use them effectively
  • Skilled in facilitating learning groups              
  • Has familiarity with the developmental needs of infants and children up to 11years old
  • Ability to think critically and innovatively
  • Has the ability to lift and carry infants and children
  • Maintains current certification in mandatory training
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite, Google Suite, and field related software 
  • Provides and maintains current clear CYIM and Police Criminal Checks according to policy and procedures

Work Environment:

  • Work schedule is 8:30 am- 4:30 pm Monday to Friday, may include some evenings and weekends
  • Local and some long-distance travel is required
  • Work is performed in various settings (crisis nursery, community, networking, presentations, etc.)
