EXECUTIVE SUMMARY

Maplewood Care Society seeks a Clinical Leader with excellent change management skills to support improvements in the quality of life and care of its residents.

Working closely with the Chief Executive Officer, the Clinical Leader supports excellence in services and provides leadership to improve resident outcomes and quality of care using evidence-based practices. You will provide leadership and hands-on direction and support for the operations, management, risk management and quality improvement of long-term care services. The goal is to promote and advance excellence in delivering quality clinical care while ensuring the best possible quality of life for residents, clients and families.

OUR STORY

Maplewood Care Society is a non-profit society incorporated in 1969, providing quality long-term care services in Abbotsford. The Society is devoted to uncompromising effort and provision of resources in maintaining a home-like atmosphere and support for residents’ health – their physical, mental and social wellness – while maximizing their individual independence. We operate two long-term care facilities in Abbotsford, BC - The MSA Manor (est. 1973) and The Maplewood House (est. 1989). Additionally, we offer an Adult Day Program to help clients maintain their independence to live safely and well at home.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Quality Improvement

  • Responsible for leading quality improvement including overseeing accreditation and driving continuous quality improvement activities.
  • Design, implement, communicate and evaluate the quality framework.
  • Report on performance indicators, monitor the progress of improvement initiatives and oversee the planning and implementation of special projects.

Education and Training

  • Respond to resident care issues and concerns in a supportive and goal-oriented manner.
  • Identify the educational needs of staff in the provision of direct resident care. Ensure the appropriate mechanisms are in place for professional development.
  • Facilitate learning and deliver educational sessions aligned with quality improvement; successfully integrating change management and adult learning principles.
  • Provide point of care support, education and coaching to ensure that education and learnings translate into improved care and quality of life.

Coaching and Facilitation

  • Provide coaching, mentoring and facilitation as required to maintain a positive and productive work environment respecting the value of an interdisciplinary team approach to care.
  • Promote the creation of a quality work environment.

Accreditation

  • Promote and provide assistance in accreditation preparations and support team members throughout the organization to ensure compliance of standards as part of the commitment to continuous improvement.

Project and Change Management

  • Provide project and change management expertise to advance the strategic priorities at Maplewood Care Society.
  • Act as a change agent within the care team and foster an environment of innovation and critical thinking.
  • Ensure a consistent application of change management practices in the organization.

 

QUALIFICATIONS

  • An undergraduate degree in nursing is preferred, but other health sciences disciplines will be considered.
  • Registration with a professional body.
  • A strong interest and/or educational preparation in behavioural sciences/psychology is preferred.
  • Energetic, enthusiastic and enjoys working with people.
  • Innovative and able to bring a fresh perspective to long-term care.
  • Long-term care experience is not required, but you must be passionate about improving the care and well-being of older people and illustrate a willingness to learn.

Skills and Abilities

  • Able to work collaboratively with and provide leadership to a diverse group of individuals.
  • Effective communication skills including the ability to facilitate, negotiate and persuade others.
  • Able to provide leadership, guidance and direction to others, including management and staff.
  • Able to identify and apply evidence-based best practice initiatives into the daily work of care team members.
  • Strong computer skills and good working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Experience and a good working knowledge of point click care (or willingness to immediately learn).
  • Able to actively participate in the care of people requiring long-term care services (physical ability to do the job is required).
