The Kettle Society supports people with mental illness to lead healthier lives by providing support services, advocacy, employment, and mentoring and housing. We work to raise awareness of mental health issues, break down stigma and reduce barriers for people with mental illness. Our goal is to promote the inclusion of people living with mental illness in all aspects of society.

Job Summary:

Under the direction of the Supported Housing Manager, the SIL/SUPERSIL Mental Health Worker is responsible for the delivery of housing and support services, enabling clients to enter, maintain and exit (where appropriate) supported, independent living.

Position: Mental Health Worker - Supported Independent Living Program

Status: Temporary PT Until Return of Incumbent

Hours and Days: Friday: 8am to 12pm, Saturday & Sunday: 9am to 5pm

Salary & Compensation: $26.42 per hour


  • Diploma in Community Social Service – Mental Health-related
  • Two years’ experience in a mental health setting including community work experience and volunteer work
  • Valid first aid certificate – Occupational First Aid Level 1
  • Valid Food Safe Level 1 certificate
  • Valid WHMIS Certificate
  • Or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience

Abilities & Skills:

  • Ability to work with people with a mental illness
  • Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing
  • Ability to work independently and in cooperation with others
  • Ability to undertake meal prep and cooking duties, followed by clean up.
  • Ability to organize and prioritize
  • Ability to observe and recognize changes in clients
  • Knowledge of housing issues and community resources
  • Ability to establish and maintain rapport with clients, staff, management and collateral service providers
  • Have an understanding of psychosocial rehabilitation and concurrent disorders including theories and methods
  • Conflict resolution and crisis intervention skills
  • Ability to operate related equipment
  • Physical ability to carry out the duties of the position

As per the PHO, you must have received both doses of an approved COVID-19 vaccine in order to work at our organization. An approved COVID-19 vaccine passport must be presented at the time of hire.
