We have an exciting opportunity for a positive, creative person to join the team at Big Brothers Big Sisters of Langley. We are currently seeking applications for the position of Mentoring Coordinator, with a focus on managing the recruitment, training, screening, and matching process for all mentors and families involved in the agency’s mentoring programs.

You will assist in the recruitment, screening, training of potential volunteers and families, as well as provide ongoing support and monitoring to mentoring matches. What you will be doing:
- Prospects, recruits, and processes inquiries and applications from potential volunteers and clients including parents, guardians, children, and youth.
- Provides a variety of levels of assessment for children, youth and their families to determine best program fit from initial program inquiry through the enrolment process.
- Conducts the Pre-Match training program with volunteers, children, youth, and parents/guardians. Delivering messages to volunteers, children and their families about program expectations, guidelines and safety.
- Building relationships with other service providers and resources to further assist the children, youth, families and volunteers they support.
- Working to create and foster constructive, strength based and satisfying relationships between children, youth and volunteers.
- Providing support and monitoring to mentoring matches to ensure that children and youth are in safe, constructive, satisfying relationships that are having a positive impact.
- Maintaining up-to-date electronic casework notes, statistics and other required reporting in compliance with relevant standards, policies and processes.
- Maintains the National mentor database by establishing, recording and updating data records.
- Working as a team to communicate the needs of children, youth and families who are accessing programs.
- Performs administrative functions as required to administer and report on mentorship programs and caseloads.
- Initiates, implements and/or participates in activity programming supporting mentorship programs.
- Participates on committees and in short and long range Agency planning, public relations, marketing, special event, and fundraising initiatives and activities.
- Performs other duties as assigned that relate to the overall management and administration of Agency programs, special events, public relations, recruitment, marketing, and fund raising activities.
What you bring:
- You have a minimum 2-year post-secondary diploma with related work experience (required) or you have a bachelor’s degree in social sciences or humanities (preferred)
- You have 1 to 3 years’ direct program delivery experience working with children and families
- Excellent communication (oral, written and presentation) skills
- You are a well-organized, mature, self-starter with the ability to work independently and in a team
- You are skilled at facilitation, interviewing and training
- You are able to work effectively with children and have a solid understanding of child and adolescent development theory
- You have experience working with a culturally diverse client and volunteer base
- Skilled in the use of standard office, database, and communication applications (e.g., Word, Excel, File-maker, PowerPoint, Outlook, etc.). Experience working with a case management database is an asset
- You have a flexible schedule, with the ability to work some evenings
- You are able to adapt your approach and behaviour in real-time to match the shifting demands of situations
- You are skilled at motivating and supporting volunteers
- You are able to exercise good judgement and sound decision making.
- You have a valid driver’s license and access to a car for out-of-office appointments (required)
