POSITION DESCRIPTION

Position: Capacity Strengthening Officer
Location: Remote and/or 2099 Gottingen St., Halifax, NS (candidate should reside in the Atlantic provinces)
Remuneration: 51,999 per year (pro-rated to 50%)
Position Type: Part-time, 18.75 hours weekly

The Inter-Council Network (ICN
) is a dynamic network of provincial and regional member-based Councils for International Cooperation committed to social justice and social change. Rooted in communities across Canada and representing nearly 350 international cooperation organizations, the Councils are leaders in public engagement at a local and regional level and are recognized for bringing regional knowledge and priorities to the national level. The ICN provides a forum in which the Councils collaborate to improve development effectiveness, learn from each other’s specific skills, and identify common priorities for collective action.

About the position
The ICN is seeking a Capacity Strengthening Officer to support ICN’s public engagement capacity strengthening workshops. The workshops will be based on ICN’s ongoing research project on decolonial, anti-racist and feminist approaches in public engagement.

What you’ll do (Tasks and Responsibilities):

  • Work closely with the ICN team and consultant to design and deliver workshops on the use of decolonial, anti-racist and feminist approaches in public engagement.

  • Provide logistical, training, and administrative support to ICN’s capacity strengthening program.

  • Assist develop and implement a comprehensive Monitoring, Evaluation and Learning strategy for the capacity strengthening workshops.

  • Support collate resource materials related to decolonial, anti-racist and feminist methods.

  • Coordinate with the ICN policy officer to write a program report for the capacity strengthening workshops and other impact assessment reports for internal and external audiences.

  • Assist the ICN communication officer with communications related to ICN’s capacity strengthening workshops.

The Program Officer is also responsible for:

  • Actively participating in staff meetings and providing input towards the development of other organizational activities, operational practices and policies as required

  • Representing ACIC and/or ICN at events or external meetings, when requested

  • Other duties, as deemed necessary.

We’re Looking For (Qualifications):

The Ideal candidate will have:

  • A Commitment to centering equity, accessibility, and social justice in program development and implementation

  • Familiarity with decolonial, anti-racist and feminist principles and approaches.

  • Experience organizing logistics for workshops, conferences, and other events

  • A Post-secondary degree, or equivalent, in international development, adult education, communications or another related field desired but not required.

  • Experience creating publications and reports for internal and external audiences.

  • Superior written, oral and online communication skills.

  • Excellent time management, decision making, organizational, problem-solving and interpersonal skills.

  • Ability to work both independently, and in a collaborative environment.

  • Bilingual in French and English will be considered an asset
