Our innovative Outdoor Pursuits team uses the outdoors as a classroom and recreation as a teaching assistant to help our clients develop employability skills. This progressive career provides the opportunity for the Outdoor Pursuits Program Coordinator to utilize their outdoor experience to assist clients in reaching their goals through experiential learning in the wilderness.

To join our Outdoor Pursuits Coordinators, you will have experience working with people with a broad range of disabilities including mental illness and developmental disabilities.

What will you do?

• Design, facilitate, and lead groups of 10-12 clients in Outdoor pursuits, recreation, and fitness initiatives that work to develop essential skills. Programs with clients include activities such as hiking, geocaching, rafting, water sports, indoor climbing, leadership programs, snow-shoeing, and low impact fitness.
• Work directly with Prospect clients, using your areas of expertise in the outdoors and fitness, in order to teach and expand employability skills.
• Participate in program planning and development in accordance with client goals and Prospect policies.
• Actively seek out partners in the outdoor and recreation communities for the purposes of developing new relationships as well as the support and maintenance of these and existing relationships
• Participate in ongoing program and outdoor specific risk management, including establishment and monitoring of policies and procedures and risk assessment.
• Maintain open communication with all departments within the team.

What does it take to do this job?

• Post-Secondary education in outdoor leadership or other related program and 1 to 2 years’ experience in a similar role.
• Experience in leading Outdoor pursuits, recreation, or fitness related programming.
• Exposure or experience with risk management as it pertains to working with groups of clients, in a wilderness or outdoor recreation setting.
• Exceptional oral communication skills with the ability to write effective, clear and concise client notes, reports, and other required documentation.
• Familiarity with Microsoft Office products.
• Previous experience with behaviour guidance is considered an asset.
• Willingness to work in inclement weather.
• Valid class 4 driver’s license or the ability to obtain one (within the first 3 months of employment)
• Current First Aid and Wilderness First Aid would be considered assets.
