Position Summary:

PCRS seeks an experienced leader for our Newton Youth Hub. The coordinator is responsible for creating a welcoming, safe, inclusive, and vibrant space for youth to access the supports and services they need to achieve their goals. This person is a natural network-builder who sees potential in youth, community, and partnerships. They develop and enhance relationships with all staff, partners, and community. The NYH Coordinator works closely with the City Centre Youth Hub coordinator and shares activities, budgets, and planning for all Surrey Youth Services 

The coordinator develops, implements, and leads programming in the center. They supervise volunteers and practicum students and work with the manager, and other program leads to create a welcoming space for youth and families. The coordinator is responsible for seeking out funding opportunities and grants writing to augment programming. The coordinator brings leadership knowledge as well as a solid background in youth engagement and community development. The drop-in space provides both brief one-on-one support and some longer-term case management, so the coordinator is an experienced youth worker who can quickly build rapport with a wide variety of youth.

As a hub for youth services and agencies, the coordinator is integral in the co-creation of culture and collaboration at NYH; this position requires working flexible hours into the evenings and weekends. This successful applicant is also expected to participate in activities with youth such as sports, art, music etc.

Primary Duties:

  • Develop and coordinate programming and extraordinary events in the resource room to create a welcoming and inclusive environment for youth.
  • Provide advocacy and support to assist youth and their families to access information and support services.
  • Work with the manager to facilitate program expansion and partnership development with other local youth service providers.
  • Create and distribute monthly programming calendar.
  • Responsible for the day-to-day program operational budgets and assist with reports.
  • Fulfil financial, statistical, and other progress reporting requirements.
  • Coordinate and co-chair center and OSH staff meetings with a multi-agency team.
  • Seek out and write RFPs and other funding sources to augment programming
  • Communicate regularly with partners and develop and maintain positive working relationships.
  • Supervision and support of volunteers and practicum students

Dimensions of Work:

  • Flexible hours between 8:30 a.m. – 8:00 p.m. with occasional weekends

Academic and Job Experience Required:

Bachelor’s degree in Child and Youth Care or relevant discipline, or diploma in Child and Youth Care or related field plus two years of direct experience working with diverse youth. A combination of experience and education may be considered. Two years of related leadership/supervision experience. Understanding of youth engagement and psych-social development. Certification in recreation, arts and youth engagement is an asset.

Basic Requirements:

  • Criminal Record Check, including the vulnerable sector
  • Proof of being fully Vaccinated for Covid19
  • Standard First Aid & CPR

Desired Requirements:

  • Second language
  • Class 4 Drivers license
  • Bronze Cross for swimming and beach activities
  • Crisis intervention and de-escalation training
  • Trauma-informed practice training
  • Training to address depression/suicide/mental health assessment an asset
  • Certification in recreation, arts, and youth engagement an asset
