POSITION OVERVIEW

A leader in community hospice palliative care service, Hospice of Waterloo Region operates at a new facility located in North Waterloo.   We are hiring an experienced individual with a passion for caring for the staff, volunteers, clients and families in our building.  You are knowledgeable in commercial cleaning, have strong communication skills, and are used to working in a team that that includes a strong core of volunteers.  This position involves working evenings from 2pm to 10pm Monday – Friday for a total of 37.5 hours per week.

 

POSITION SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Clean and care for the building to ensure a safe and healthy environment including:
    - clean and disinfect resident rooms daily in consultation with the Director of Care and the nursing team to ensure proper infection control standards
    - clean and disinfect offices, meeting rooms, kitchens, family rooms, washrooms and common areas
    - wash/vacuum all floors
    - dust all furniture and fixtures as required
    - empty waste baskets, recycling and garbage cans
  • Refill all soap, toilet paper, paper towel dispensers as required
  • Ensure an adequate inventory of stock supplies including ordering as required
  • Maintain storage areas and cleaning equipment in a safe and orderly manner
  • Contribute to a holistic supportive environment to meet the diverse needs of clients and families

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE

  • 5 years prior experience in cleaning and building care, experience with Infection Control practices an asset
  • WHIMS certificate
  • Able to work independently
  • Reliable transportation to hospice
  • Knowledge of job related safety regulations and techniques

 

SKILLS AND ATTRIBUTES

  • Ability to balance multiple demands and respond in a friendly, customer focused manner
  • Ability to prioritize competing tasks working autonomously and with a team
  • Ability to stand or walk for extended periods and lift more than 20 kg
  • Able to clean up bodily fluids as per standard procedures
  • Able to read and interpret plans and specifications
