Canadian Hearing Services (CHS) has an opening for a Lifeskills Literacy Instructor, based in London. Reporting to the Manager, Training Services, the Lifeskills Literacy Instructor, as part of the LINC Program, is responsible for the preparation and delivery of instruction on English language and the transition to life in Canada to Deaf newcomers. Classes are provided in a learner-centred, goal directed, and strengths-based learning environment.
This is a permanent, part-time, onsite unionized position working 28 hours per week.
The ideal candidate will have a bachelor’s degree in Education or equivalent, as well as 2-3 years’ related work experience including developing and adapting lesson plans and related materials, combined with utilizing various teaching styles to match and meet individual student needs. Full proficiency in the use of MS Teams and Zoom, to teach remotely and incorporate technology into in-person lessons, is required.
You are fluent in American Sign Language (ASL) and possess a strong understanding of Deaf culture. Equivalent certification such as the Deaf Practitioner’s Certificate through the Deaf Literacy Initiative would be an asset. We are also looking for an enthusiastic individual who has superior time management and organizational skills and who can work well under pressure to manage a varied workload with competing priorities and deadlines.
