About the Job:
Reporting to the Program Manager, the Child & Youth Activity Worker will plan, facilitate and assess developmentally appropriate activities and experiences that promote the well-being of children/youth and that reflects the diverse needs of children/youth. The Child & Youth Activity Worker will provide one-to-one and group support to children/youth, utilizing the CWWA model, facilitate homework clubs and works with the local school as requested, organize and facilitate recreational activities such as communal meals, cultural celebrations, movie nights etc. for children/youth and their moms. In addition, the Child & Youth Activity Worker provides group and individual childcare as required to mothers who may have court appearances, appointments with lawyers, counselors or doctors etc., assists families moving in and moving out, preforms light house-keeping duties, responds to emergency situations, and keeps accurate records, files, log notes & statistical information as per Atira’s practice & policies.

 

About You:
You are a feminist, passionate about the work of ending violence against women and children. You embrace Atira’s mission, vision, values and philosophy. You have a well-developed understanding of and commitment to anti-oppression work and intersectionality. You are familiar with colonialism especially as it applies in Canada and you understand the impact of the residential school system. You are committed to working with women who are struggling with substance use and or mental wellness and understand and are comfortable working within a harm reduction environment. You support women who choose abstinence, but understand abstinence is just one option for women struggling with substance use. Your definition of woman includes transgender, two spirit and intersex women, and transfeminine individuals. You are sex worker positive. You have significant experience as a front-line support worker working with women affected by violence/abuse, combined with relevant education and or skill-based training. Lived experience is an asset, as is living in the community in which you work. Atira strives to hire staff who reflect the women we serve.

You Also Have:


• Food Safe Certificate is required
• A valid Class 5 BC driver’s license and access to a vehicle while on shift is required
• Reliable vehicle & ability to acquire Business Class insurance with $2 million liability is required
• A valid child oriented First Aid certificate is required
• All positions are subject to a criminal records review (Submitted by Atira)
• Physical ability to perform the duties of the position
• Covid-19 (Including Boosters) & Annual Flu Vaccination is required, unless with valid exemption



Additional Requisites/Assets:

• Experience working with children who have/are experiencing and or have witnessed violence and abuse is an asset
• A degree, diploma or certificate in a relevant discipline is an asset
• Early Childhood Educator License is an asset
• Special Needs Certificate an asset
• Non-Violent Crisis Intervention Certificate is an asset
• Strong written and oral communication skills
• All positions are subject to a criminal records review
