This position provides assistance to individuals and families who are seeking aid and assistance from or have been referred to The Salvation Army. This position also assists the Community Ministries team during the Christmas season.

 

Accountabilities:

Food Bank:

  • Aid with processing, unloading, documenting, and sorting food donations for the Food Bank program, and assist with preparing donated items for distribution.
  • Maintain food bank stock, cleanliness, tidiness, and organization of food bank area. If needed, assist with food drive.
  • Ensure that all clients are treated with dignity and respect
  • Ensure that program fliers and resource materials are stocked and available for distribution.
  • Receive and process applications for the hamper program.
  • Assist with pick-up and delivery of food and donations from/to donors and clients using program.
  • Place food orders for the food bank
  • Record statistical data in a clear, organized, and accurate manner.

 Health and Safety

  • Adherence to all health and safety standards
  • Assist with ensuring that the Food Bank is maintained regarding organization, appearance, maintenance and general cleanliness and safety as recommended by public health, etc.
  • Work in compliance with OH&S Act and Regulations and abide by The Salvation Army’s health and safety policies and procedures. 
  • Other related duties as assigned

 

WORKING CONDITIONS:

  • Work is typically in a Family Services environment.
  • Work requires frequent amount of standing, walking, bending, repetitive lifting, climbing stairs, and the ability to lift up to 30 pounds with no assistance from others or, up to 50 pounds with assistance from others.
  • Working environment is typically in the office in generally agreeable conditions.
  • Your supervisor will set the hours of work, which will typically be Monday-Thursday, 9:00am-3:00pm, includes ½ hour unpaid lunch break.  Rate of pay is $16.00 per hour.
  • Program vehicle is provided for work related requirements
  • At times, may be required to wear appropriate Salvation Army identification.

education and experience Qualifications:

Education, Qualifications and Certifications:

  • High School Diploma
  • Safe Food Handling Certification

Experience and Skilled Knowledge Requirements:

  • A minimum of one (1) year of experience working in community-based programs, including experience working with multi-barriered persons an asset
  • Basic computer knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel
  • Must provide an original copy of a Background Check that is satisfactory to The Salvation Army, in its sole discretion, is required.  The screening is secured either through the national Canadian Police Information Centre (CPIC) or through a local police detachment
  • Must provide an original copy of a current Alberta “Class 5” Driver’s License and current Driver’s Abstract
  • May require screening through The Salvation Army Abuse Registry.
  • Develop an understanding and support for the mission and purpose of The Salvation Army in Canada and its implications as related to position responsibilities.
