Position Summary:

The Pre-Employment Worker is a member of the education partnership team which includes the Vancouver School Board (VSB), Vancouver Coastal Health (VCH) and PCRS. This position is located at Broadway Youth Resource Centre (BYRC) and all programs housed here participate in the BYRC Community culture and events. The core duties are to develop and support student readiness for employment through linkages to successful employment experiences, thereby strengthening community connectedness and social determinants of health. This service promotes participants well-being and social health in particularly for Indigenous youth. Indigenous candidates are encouraged to apply. 

Primary Duties:

  • Develop and maintain connections within the business community to ensure a variety of appropriate and stable work placements for participants.
  • Provide employer education and connection regarding hiring youth with diverse skills and adaptations for employment including youth with FASD, learning differences, mental health and other needs.
  • Provide ongoing support to participants and provide consultations (on site or by phone) with employers supervising the work experience participants. This also includes on-site supervision for youth in work placements.
  • Links with key stakeholders (parents, and others) to seek their support with successful job placement strategies.
  • Support participants and team members in daily school activities and routines.
  • Plan, lead and support cultural programming and activities.
  • One-to-one and outreach work with participants to help maintain connection with school and work placements.
  • Work with school team to support the participant’s individual education plans.
  • Take a lead role in developing and implementing Transition Plans for participants graduating from the program.
  • Reports as required by Vancouver Coastal Health.                

Academic and Job Experience Required:

  • BSW or B.A. in a related field plus one year experience, or Child and Youth Care Diploma plus two years’ experience. Previous experience working with multi-barriered or at-risk youth, and in employment readiness programming, or the equivalent is required. Learning disabilities training including FASD, ADHD, Early childhood education, Special needs substance abuse/addictions counselling training are an asset.

Basic Requirements:

  • Criminal Record Check, including the vulnerable sector
  • Proof of being fully Vaccinated for Covid19
  • Standard first aid and CPR certificate
  • Non-violent crisis intervention
  • Valid Class 5 Driver’s License
  • Willingness to receive annual flu vaccinations, as per the VCH vaccination policy

Salary Range:   $27.81/hour – $29.00/hour, plus benefit package (100% employer-paid)
