Reporting to the Manager External Relations, the Advisor External Relations provides confidential analytical, communications and administrative support to the Executive Office. The position supports Executive Office activities and collects and disseminates data and information in support of the complex or politically sensitive business activities of the Commission. She/he/they participates in a variety of projects, including conducting research, summarizing findings, preparing reports and making recommendations for senior management and the Board of Commissioners on a variety of confidential and sensitive corporate, planning and governance issues and initiatives. The Advisor provides leadership in coordinating staff in Executive Office and other branches who are involved in resolving issues and preparing correspondence and brings forward matters that require immediate action and respond quickly and thoroughly to requests and enquiries from the public and stakeholders.



The successful candidate will have the following:



  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Public Policy, Communications or Planning or related discipline;
  • Sound experience in strategic communications planning, research and issues management within a fast paced, complex environment supporting senior level management, government and sector partners;
  • Or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience acceptable to the Employer.


  • Considerable knowledge of the principles and practices of providing senior level support in a large size organization.
  • Considerable knowledge of research methods and techniques regarding complex public policy matters.
  • Sound knowledge of social housing and social policy.
  • Ability to plan and manage projects, meet deadlines and identify key milestones or measures of success.
  • Ability to develop and implement administrative practices and office procedures.
  • Ability to exercise good judgement in conducting research and preparing reports and other materials concerning complex, sensitive and confidential matters, including Minister’s letters, information regarding government initiatives and new program development, and matters of a sensitive human resource/labour relations nature.
  • Ability to display tact, initiative and flexibility.
  • Ability to work independently or as part of a team.
  • Excellent interpersonal and verbal and written communication skills.
  • Excellent computer skills in Windows-based software programs.
