We are seeking a Community Engagement Coordinator who will be responsible for coordinating and managing SafeLink Alberta fundraising events, 3rd party fundraising events, and building and cultivating relationships with a diverse group of community stakeholders.


The Community Engagement Coordinator will be a member of the Community Relations team and works collaboratively with employees, donors, volunteers, and community to develop and nurture relationships and to facilitate the achievement of our strategic plan and fund development plan goals.


This is a full-time position (35 hours per week),based out of the SafeLink Alberta operational site in Medicine Hat, however ability to work from a home office 3-4 days/week and travel across Southeastern Alberta will be required. The position will report directly to the Director, Community Relations.


Key Accountabilities 


Event Coordination

  • Facilitates the successful execution of fundraising and general awareness events in Medicine Hat.
  • Develops critical paths, milestones, and timelines for event execution.
  • Leads the implementation of local third-party fundraising and awareness events.
  • Secures event locations, manages event timelines and details, and acts as day of event contact.
  • With the support of the Community Relations Administrator, coordinates with outside vendors such as venue management, rental companies, catering company and others.
  • Retains and cultivates existing partnerships for events.
  • Develops and works within event budgets.
  • Works with Community Relations Specialist to ensure events are promoted and marketed in a timely manner.
  • Coordinates with Community Relations Administrator on all required receipting and event paperwork.
  • Develops and coordinates donor recognition event(s).
  • Supports the organization in the strategic planning and logistics of public outreach events targeting key populations.


Community and Donor Relations

  • Ensures consistent and aligned messaging, and communicates SafeLink Alberta’s mission, vision, values, and strategic goals.
  • Ensures stakeholders are kept informed on a regular basis through appropriate channels (blogs, social media, newsletters, etc), in collaboration with the Community Relations Specialist.
  • Builds relationships with key external stakeholder groups, community partners and potential community alliances including donors, volunteers, and funders.
  • Participates on committees working on issues that align with the organization’s goals.
  • Introduces prospective major donors and corporate donors to Director, Community Relations.


Volunteer Coordination

  • Provides strategic direction for the volunteer program.
  • Develops and implements volunteer recognition programs to ensure volunteers are rewarded and recognized.
  • Works with SafeLink Alberta’s employees to identify their volunteer requirements and opportunities.
  • Performs regular evaluation of the volunteer program to ensure it meets the strategic goals of the organization.

Qualifications /Key Competencies                                                                                                                                       

  • Post-secondary degree or diploma in Events, Fundraising, Communications, Marketing, or related field.
  • Three or more years of nonprofit fund development experience and a proven track record of outstanding results.
  • Experience in the non-profit sector or healthcare setting preferred.
  • Ability to work in office two days per week and from a home office on other days, and to be able to stay motivated and on task in a home office environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop strong collaborative working relationships and stewardships both internally and externally with a diverse group of stakeholders.
  • Ability to coordinate multiple long and short-term projects simultaneously.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills, both individually and in public speaking capacities
  • Provision of a criminal record check with vulnerable sector search is required. A positive criminal record check will not necessarily preclude a candidate from being hired - decisions will be made on an individual basis and all information will be kept confidential.
  • Access to reliable transportation and a valid driver’s license is required.
  • The successful candidate may be required to show proof of COVID-19 vaccination prior to start date.



The salary range for this position is $46,574 to $53,928 based on education and experience.
