position Purpose summary:

The Christmas Coordinator Assistant provides assists in providing oversight to the activities of various Salvation Army Christmas programs as well as the coordination of all staff and volunteers.  This position may be assigned to provide coordination for one or multiple campaigns such as Christmas Hampers, Adopt-A-Family, Santa Shuffle, Toy Drives, and sponsorship campaigns.

Key Responsibilities:

·         Assists in providing support, direction and supervision of Christmas support staff

·         Assists with managing the collection of confidential information pertaining to clients and/or sponsors ensuring updated records are maintained in the database

·         Work with clients and sponsors to ensure the appropriate level of need is being addressed through the requirements of campaign

·         In partnership with other campaign coordinators, liaise as required with the city, community agencies, and businesses for promotional purposes

·         Provide volunteer and worker training as required

·         Prepare, coordinate, and distribute correspondence as required to clients and/or sponsors

·         Provide updated campaign information through statistical reporting requirements

·         Solicit a variety of donations and/or sponsorship commitment in support of the assigned Christmas campaign

·         Ensure the secure and safe keeping of all donated goods throughout the season

·         Oversee the collection, sorting, and distribution of items such as toys and hampers

·         Coordinate the delivery and pick-up of donations as required

·         Provide oversight and attend special events and activities

·         Submit final campaign reports outlining highlights and recommendations for future campaign coordination

·         Other related duties as assigned.

 

Qualifications and Education requirements:

Education/Certifications:

  • High School Diploma
  • Acceptable Criminal Record Check
  • Valid Driver’s License and Valid Drivers Abstract
  • Completion of Voluntary Sector Management, Business Administration, Public Relations or Human Resources programs an asset

Experience:

·         1-3 years of prior related experience including experience in customer service, coordinating events, administration assistance and database management preferred

·         Previous supervisory/management experience an asset

·         Working understanding of budgets and financial record keeping

·         Knowledge of available community resources is considered an asset

Required Skills/Capabilities:

·         Work requires frequent amount of standing, walking, bending, repetitive lifting, climbing stairs and the ability to lift up to 50 pounds

·         Ability to work independently, and participate as an active and responsibility team member in a cooperative team environment Good organizational and time management skills, ability to follow detailed instructions

·         Ability to maintain information in confidence and exercise good judgement

·         Self-motivated/disciplined

·         Effective organizational and time management skills

 

Successful candidates, prior to hiring, may be required to provide:

DAYS and HOURS of work:

HOURS: 35 hours weekly  (Must be flexible – the majority of the hours will be Monday thru Friday, 8:30am to 4pm, but occasionally weekends and evenings may be required due to various programs that we run in preparation for Christmas.  Rate of pay is approximately $17.00-$18.00 per hour depending on experience.
