Rescue Centre Coordinator

 

VOKRA is seeking a full-time rescue centre coordinator to join our team of enthusiastic, compassionate volunteers and staff.

 

Applicants looking to join our team should bring with them a love of working with people and animals, a history of excellent communication and a strong ability to multitask.  This position will participate in the daily care of all cats/kittens in our care, assist in maintaining the rescue centre in a clean, sanitary, safe and efficient manner, and communicate with volunteers, fosters and the public in an effective, courteous and non-judgemental manner.

 

This position requires a hard-working, energetic, outgoing and friendly personality. You will be working in a team environment directly with our volunteers and communicating daily with our fosters. Excellent computer and telephone skills are a must. The job will also perform varied duties in the centre, including assisting with intaking cats, preparing cats for foster care, updating records and a variety of other jobs within the centre on an as-needed basis.

 

The Rescue Center Coordinator will be expected to work 5 days a week, which may include weekdays/weekends and/or statutory holidays to accommodate the centre’s 7-day a week scheduling. Candidates must also have a valid driver’s licence and their own vehicle. 

 

Responsibilities will include:

 

  • Assist the Rescue Centre Manager with day-to-day operations, ensuring all volunteers understand and work to support VOKRA’s mission, values and operating procedures. 
  • Assist in maintaining the rescue centre in a clean, sanitary, safe and efficient manner.
  • Coordinate the flow of cats in and out of the facility in collaboration with external teams. 
  • Support the vet tech and volunteer medical team with providing compassionate, high-quality, preventive and basic medical care to our cats and kittens
  • Triage and respond to communications from foster coordinators and fosters
  • Assist with record keeping ensuring the database is up to date
  • Transporting cats as needed and responding to external emergencies as necessary

 

Experience/Qualifications:

 

  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • A love for animals and desire to make a difference in the lives of the most vulnerable
  • Experience in a shelter environment or handling cats in a professional setting an asset
  • Ability to provide excellent customer service skills: patience, professional, positive attitude, attention to detail, adaptability
  • Comfortable working in both a supervised and unsupervised environment; work well with all volunteers/staff 
  • Excellent communication and organizational skills, ability to prioritize and multi-task
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment
  • Must be flexible and able to work weekdays, weekends and statutory holidays
  • Position is physically demanding at times and includes heavy lifting, pushing and pulling which requires an individual with the ability to maintain a level of fitness and endurance to fulfill the required duties
  • Must have a valid driver’s licence and your own vehicle.
