Job Title                             :             Kitchen Helper


Based at                             :             Calgary Hope Mission, Hubalta

Reports to                          :             Food Services Manager and Programs Manager

Hours of work                    :             Full Time, 40 hrs per week.

  • Assist the Cook staff member in the food preparation at the Hope Mission Centre in Calgary, which includes: sorting, washing, and peeling, chopping, slicing, cooking of food and other kitchen related duties determined by the Food Services Manager and the Hope Mission Calgary Program Manager.
  • Help in menu planning (aligning with Canada food guide), food ordering & inventory in coordination with the Food Services Manager and Programs Manager
  • Help overseeing volunteers who are scheduled to serve in the kitchen ensuring they are trained and following AHS food preparation standards
  • Communicate and coordinate with schools for lunch programs ensuring menu and schedule meets the needs of the school
  • Maintain excellent serving and cleaning standards.
  • Strong communication skills.
  • Maintain a positive and safe kitchen environment.
  • Ability to work well with staff, volunteers, and guests of the program.



  • Team player
  • Must be physically fit, no issues with standing and able to lift average 50 lbs
  • Completion of high school.
  • Related training or 2 years work experience as a cook is required.
  • Food Safety Certificate
  • Understanding of food processing and kitchen equipment.
  • Comfortable working with vulnerable people.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with staff, volunteers, and guests.
  • Conflict resolution skills.
  • Administrative and organizational abilities.
  • Ability to exercise authority without intimidation.
  • Self-management skills.



  • Being a Christian Organization we require our employees to be in agreement and sign the Hope Mission Statement of Faith  (
  • Must be legally entitled to work in Canada on a full-time basis.
  • Able to provide Criminal Record Check and Vulnerable Sector Search
  • A letter of reference from a ministry or church is an asset
  • Adherence Hope Mission’s Policies and Procedures.

SALARY:   $15 per hour plus 4% vacation pay


HOURS:     40 hours per week,

                   Weekly Schedule determined by the Food Services Manager in coordination with the Hubalta Cook.
