Youth Leadership Program Facilitator

Job Overview:

Reporting to the Supervisor, Services for Educational Achievement (SEA) the Youth Leadership Program Facilitator is responsible for the planning, delivery, and evaluation of the Youth Leadership program.  The Youth leadership program primary goal is to work with young parents to strengthen their leadership skills, enhance their sense of identity and belonging, and support their engagement with the wider community. The program includes delivery of the Peers-Educating-Peers program in junior and senior high schools across Edmonton with young parents as co-facilitators, developing and delivering group programming, and connecting participants with volunteer opportunities in the community.

Job Conditions:

This is a full-time position working 35 hours/week primarily between 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday, however hours of work will vary based on the needs of the position and agency. This may include working occasional evenings and weekends. The position will be working out of the Braemar School location (9359 67a Street NW), however regular travel to our West Office and Brentwood location will be required.

Key Responsibilities: 

  • Create a Youth Leadership plan with each participant that reflects their goals and identifies which components of the Youth Leadership program best supports their goal.
  • Develop and deliver group and 1:1 programming to increase leadership skills in participants with a focus on communication, public speaking, self-awareness, self-regulation, and boundaries
  • Support participants with their volunteer activities within and outside of Terra this includes working with other units to coordinate scheduling, providing training, and day-of support. 
  • Receive, respond, prioritize, and track incoming Peers-Educating-Peers for speaking engagements.
  • Develop program delivery goals and objectives and document program delivery and outcomes, annual reports, and funding reports.
  • Participate effectively in community and inter-agency functions as a Terra representative.
  • Actively seeks community connections that are appropriate for program delivery


  • Post-secondary diploma or degree in Human Services, Education, or Special Education
  • Minimum of three (3) years’ direct experience working with adolescents in a community-based service
  • Understanding and knowledge of the issues young people face when pregnant and parenting
  • Experience in public speaking, employment readiness training and group facilitation
  • Ability to work with families from diverse cultural backgrounds and develop positive, effective, professional rapport and relationships with youth 

Other requirements: 

  • A valid driver’s license and a reliable vehicle with 2 million liability insurance
  • Current clear Drivers Abstract
  • Ability to work flexible hours
  • Clear Criminal Record Check and Child Intervention Check that are dated within 90 Days of the start date
  • Current Suicide Prevention/Intervention Training Certificate

Vaccine Policy

Compensation: The salary for the position is $44 850 – 48 750/year. Upon completion of a probationary period, we offer a comprehensive, competitive, extended health benefits package including RRSP contribution.  A Wellness Fund is allocated to staff to support their ongoing well-being.  Staff have three weeks of vacation, and, in addition, the agency is closed between Christmas and New Years.

As a learning organization, Terra supports ongoing professional development among employees through formal training, informal mentoring, and personalized growth plans.  Terra is continuing to grow our programming and there are anticipated opportunities for further professional growth within the agency.
