Edmonton Meals on Wheels is hiring an EVENING KITCHEN SUPERVISOR

to support the preparation of home cooked meals for homebound and vulnerable Edmontonians.

 

Edmonton Meals on Wheels is a local non-profit agency that provides home-delivered meals, other food services and social connections to a diverse mix of people.  We’re well-known for our exceptional food services and creative, innovative strategies that engage the community in various events, partnerships and volunteer opportunities.  We are looking for an Evening Kitchen Supervisor to support our mission of providing nutritious meals which support health, wellbeing and independence of Edmontonians.

 

The Role:

Reporting to the Food and Production Manager, the Evening Kitchen Supervisor is responsible for day-to-day food production, packaging processes and the daily supervision, support and direction of staff.  The Supervisor ensures that food quality, food preparation, safety, sanitation and cleanliness are in accordance with policies, standards, and Serving Safer Foods Alberta guidelines.  The Supervisor also supports kitchen volunteer engagement and task assignment in assisting the organization in moving forward with our strategic goals and client growth.

 

Responsibilities

  • Schedules, oversees, and supports daily food production, portioning, packaging, and related kitchen processes ensuring high quality meals are produced with minimal waste
  • Supervises, trains, coaches, supports and engages with all kitchen staff and volunteers and fills in for any staff or volunteer absences
  • Ensures meals produced exceed client expectations for selection, variety, diet, quality, visual appearance, and taste
  • Oversees therapeutic and special diet meal preparation, fills in for an employee’s absence
  • Ensures all Serving Food Alberta food safe, sanitation and cleanliness practices are adhered to always
  • Ensures all recipes are accurate. Supports updates to kitchen database and reports as needed to Food and Production Manager
  • Monitors processes to maintain sustained quality, efficiency, and effectiveness. Supports new programs and quality improvement practices and supports the Manager in their absence and assumes daily tasks

Qualifications

  • Five years cooking experience in an institutional or high-volume setting preferred
  • Three to five years progressive supervisory responsibility – Journeyman Cook or Red Seal preferred
  • Criminal Record Check with Vulnerable Sector
  • Current Standard First Aid with CPR certification
  • Able to fully participate in all kitchen duties in a calm, professional manner
  • Physically able to climb stairs, walk, stand for full shift, lift, and carry up to 50 pounds
  • Excellent written and verbal English communication skills essential

  • Working with volunteers from diverse backgrounds, supporting kitchen activities daily

Hours, Salary & Benefits

  • Monday to Friday, 1:30 pm to 9:30 pm, excluding Statutory Holidays – full time hours with extended health benefits plan plus RRSP employer contributions
  • Hourly Rate $21.00 - $25.00 depending on experience
