JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

The Mobile Crisis Rapid Response Team (MCRRT) and Crisis Outreach and Support Team (COAST) provide response to persons in crisis and implement mental health and addictions intervention.  Our mobile crisis team works with individuals and families to provide crisis resolution and prevention, ensure safety, and integrate ongoing supports.

As a Mental Health Specialist for these programs, you will:

  • Provide a range of accessible services including assessment, intervention, and referral to address and prevent crisis
  • Interpret, evaluate, and prioritize information gathered during assessment to assist with developing treatment, action, and safety plans
  • Work in collaboration with police to respond to and assess crisis situations, transporting individuals to hospital as required
  • Support triaging of referrals to ensure appropriate and timely response
  • Work within the crisis team and broader addiction and mental health system to advocate for and support connection to ongoing supports, and build an effective community crisis response network
  • Act as a key liaison with police services regarding knowledge exchange and relationship maintenance, and support Crisis Intervention Training for police services
  • Ensure accurate and timely data entry and clinical documentation 

Hours of work: 37.5 hours a week, Monday to Friday with some evenings

Training: Initial comprehensive training related to all aspects of the role, as well as access to ongoing professional development

REQUIREMENTS AND QUALIFICATIONS

  • Post-secondary diploma or degree in a related Social Services field, with university preferred
  • Proof of current registration in good standing with a governing body such as CRPO or OCSWSSW
  • Minimum of 5 years’ clinical experience working with individuals, groups and/or families affected by addictions and mental health conditions
  • Experience assessing for safety risks and conducting safety planning and a demonstrated ability to apply relevant theoretical models when providing assessments to identify strengths, needs and level of risk, and case management
  • Proficient in MS Office and be familiar with databases
  • Access to reliable transportation
  • Able to manage frequent and severe exposure to direct and vicarious traumatic stress
  • Proof of vaccination against COVID-19
  • Please also note that the successful candidate will be required to provide a police vulnerable sector check as a condition of employment, however strong consideration is made to the type of offense
