POSITION: Instructor, LINC Program, 2 Chinese Seniors’ classes Level 1/2 and 2/3
PROGRAM: LINC Manager
WORK HOURS: 15 Hours/Week (Monday - Friday, 9 am-12:00 pm plus 15-30 min prep time)
RATE OF PAY: $37.06/Hour
EMPLOYMENT TERM: Contract up to March 31st, 2023

JOB SUMMARY:
The Dixie Bloor Neighborhood Centre requires an Instructor for Language Instruction for Newcomers to Canada (LINC) program to teach 2 part-time classes for Chinese Senior learners.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Teach two classes of Chinese Seniors applying LINC Curriculum Guidelines, CLB documents, and PBLA principles
  • Conducts classes in a respectful, culturally sensitive, and engaging manner, fosters self-directed learning
  • Provide client-centred, task-based, and communicative programming
  • Design PBLA-based module plans, assessment tasks as well as daily motivational lesson plans
  • Conduct initial and ongoing assessments of learners’ needs and progress.
  • Provide feedback as well as continuously redesign the course depending on learners’ needs.
  • Assign appropriate Benchmarks, prepare progress reports as needed
  • Maintain clear and accurate records of students’ attendance, prepare weekly/monthly reports
  • Assist in outreach activities to recruit clients as required
  • Organize special events to enhance learners’ participation and cultural experience
  • Participate in LINC and agency events: AGM, UW fundraising, Summer Fest and etc.
  • Other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • TESL Ontario accreditation
  • B. A. or equivalent
  • Minimum 1 year of LINC/ESL teaching experience with adults
  • Fluency in Mandarin is a must
  • Previous experience providing online course delivery and knowledge of virtual teaching platforms (ex. Zoom, Google classroom).
  • Experience working in a multicultural environment. Demonstrated sensitivity to the needs of adult immigrants and refugees.
  • Strong pedagogical skills and creative abilities
  • Demonstrated understanding and application of CLB and PBLA
  • Ability to provide technical troubleshooting will be considered an asset.
  • Ability to work independently with solid time management and organizational skills, punctual, reliable, disciplined
