Family Engagement Worker: Services for Young Dads

As a non-profit organization that has been serving pregnant and parenting teens in Edmonton for 50 years Terra is recognized for its leadership, innovation and collaboration.  Annually more than 1,000 young parents and their children benefit from a comprehensive range of services. Through the compassionate work of the staff, we help parents and children to develop and reach their full potential by recognizing and responding to their unique and individual needs. Terra staff are guided by the Code of Honour which supports, respects, and celebrates our families and staff (https://terracentre.ca/what-is-terra/careers/).  If you share our values and support our mission and vision, please consider joining our team.

Job Overview:

As a Family Engagement Worker: Services for Young Dads, you work with young dads to support the development of positive parenting skills, strengthen the parent-child relationship, and connect families to community resources. Through home visits and community outreach, participants are supported to make healthy choices and to develop their capacity to effectively meet the needs of their children. Family Engagement Workers also work collaborative with their peers to deliver group programming that supports the creation of a positive community for young parents in Edmonton. This position works with both young dads and young moms, however the majority of work will be with young dads.

A typical day starts at our West Office to review your schedule and confirm your home visits. Before going to your first visit, you stop by the Clothes Closet to grab a clothing hamper for the family you are visiting and add a book that you can leave with the family. The home visit focuses on engaging in activities that support serve-and-return interactions and has time throughout to offer resources and support for the challenges faced by the young parent. After lunch, you stop in at one of three Terra sites across the city to complete paperwork before picking up a dad and child and taking them to their check-up appointment. After dropping them off at home, and promising to send dad some employment resources, your day comes to an end.
