Position Title:             Facilitator (Part-Time, Temporary)

Department:                Community Innovation

Reports to:                  Director, Community Innovation

Contract Dates:          ASAP – March 2023 




The Facilitator is responsible for developing and hosting gatherings that explore anti-racism education for both youth and adults, creating anti-racism resources for newcomers and im/migrants and building opportunities that foster social connections in the community through facilitating dialogues and community engagement activities. The ideal candidate is someone who is a thoughtful communicator that thrives on bringing people together to explore complex conversations.


Specific activities include co-designing an arts-based event, community dialogues, youth diversity workshops and resource creation.


Key Responsibilities


  • Researches, develops and writes curriculum for anti-racism education and youth diversity workshops
  • Designs, coordinates and facilitates anti-racism workshops for newcomers, im/migrants and community members, including dialogues and educational sessions (virtual and in-person)
  • Creates shareable resources, including, but not limited to, fact sheets, posters, pamphlets and social media content
  • Delivering informational sessions/workshops on EDI material created by Impact North Shore to internal and external partners, as needed
  • Establishes supportive, inclusive and culturally appropriate accessible spaces for newcomers, im/migrants and community members to explore complex topics
  • Ensures trauma support and education on how to tackle and respond to racist incidents is available during workshops for participants
  • Collaborates with staff teams across internal areas of work to ensure workshop and resource content addresses current needs of im/migrants and newcomers
  • Remains up-to-date on industry news and trends related to equity, diversity, and inclusion, particularly as it relates to im/migrant inclusion
  • Develops and maintains relationships with a diverse range of community partners
  • Supports learning and action through anti-oppression and intersectional lens
  • Actively participates in internal EDI committee meetings, North Shore Immigrant Inclusion Partnership (NSIIP) events, North Shore Anti-Racism Network activities and reconciliation actions, as well as team and All Staff meetings
  • Other related duties, as required


Minimum Qualifications


  • Education/experience in developing content on topics, including and related to diversity, inclusion, anti-racism and decolonization
  • Experience in workshop facilitation, including both adult and youth facilitation
  • Experience working with individuals from diverse cultural backgrounds
  • Strong communicating, writing, editing, presenting and interpersonal skills
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Proven record of achieving and measuring results
  • Strong analytical and solution-finding skills that include the ability to develop and propose creative solutions and approaches
  • Demonstrated ability to take initiative, step outside of your comfort zone and embrace learning through action
  • Comfortable working with a variety of computer software applications and has the ability to learn and adapt to new technologies, as needed
  • Ability to identify barriers to access and inclusion for a diverse population and have an understanding of internal, interpersonal and systemic racism
  • Ability to develop/ maintain positive relationships among diverse internal/external partners
  • Ability to speak multiple languages is considered an asset
  • Familiarity of and/or lived experience related to the position, is considered a strong asset

Additional Information

Hours:  21-28 hours / week

Salary Range:  $25 - 31 per hour

Contract Role:  ASAP – March 2023
