Position: Case Manager/Support Worker

Location: Newton Resource Centre, Surrey

Hours: Monday to Friday, 35 hours per week

We are looking for a Case Manager/Support Worker to join our SOURCES Empowered for Employment - Peering into Employment team!  Peering into Employment is a coordinated housing and employment program for individuals who are at risk of or experiencing homelessness. This individual must be compassionate, non-judgmental, resourceful, and a team player.

Empowered for Employment, SOURCES Newton Resource Centre

 

Reporting to the Manager, Empowered for Employment, the Case Manager/Support Worker is a permanent employee of Sources Community Resources Society.

Empowered for Employment Services provide various programs that provide comprehensive supports to diverse clients including survivors of violence and/or abuse, mature workers who are 55+, persons with disabilities, and our Peering into Employment program which provides supports to people at risk of or experiencing homelessness who want to make positive changes in their lives and prepare for a successful transition to employment. 

The Newton Resource Centre offers a variety of services for individuals who are living in poverty including those who are homeless. These programs focus on supporting individuals to obtain and maintain essential income and living resources including income assistance, other government benefits, and affordable housing.

 

Responsibilities:                                                                           

  1. Assist individuals who are at risk of or experiencing homelessness to obtain stable housing and employment.
  2. Assess individual needs to secure housing, determine lived experience and collaboratively establish peer employment goals.
  3. Provide written communication on behalf of clients, accompany to appointments, housing viewings, job training, interviews, and other stabilization advancement appointments as necessary to ensure progress and completion.
  4. Coordinate and provide wrap around support to ensure success in housing and employment.
  5. Facilitate small groups and /or deliver 1:1 support to participants in soft skills, work/employment topics and individual goals.
  6. Assist individuals to access personal supports and address other personal, employment and housing related barriers, as appropriate.
  7. Work with local community including business/employers to coordinate peer employment and job opportunities.
  8. Provide necessary coaching and support for peer employment activities to promote a successful transition to meaningful work.
  9. Complete required administrative, documentation and reporting requirements.
  10. Engage in marketing/community engagement activities with the objective of fostering community awareness of Empowered for Employment services and Peering into Employment program to help facilitate referrals and meaningful work opportunities for program participants.

Qualifications:

  1. An undergraduate degree or diploma or combination of relevant education, training and experience in community / social services and employment services.
  2. Awareness of poverty and homelessness related issues.
  3. Familiarity with community-based resources.
  4. Case Management experience with knowledge and experience working with marginalized individuals from diverse backgrounds including those with a range of chronic health conditions and disabilities including mental health and substance use.
  5. Experience in employment related services would be an asset with an understanding of employment related barriers including employment maintenance issues, and assessing client needs and employer/labour market requirements.
  6. Effective communication and interpersonal skills with an ability to establish and maintain trusting and collaborative relationships with vulnerable and marginalized individuals.
  7. Must be flexible with an ability to work independently, take initiative, prioritize, and take appropriate action to effectively support individuals to identify, respond to and address needs.
  8. Computer proficiency with emphasis on MS Office, Internet, and data management systems.
  9. Clear Criminal Record Check.
  10. Valid Driver’s license and clean driver’s abstract; travel is required.
