Position

Habitat for Humanity Edmonton is seeking a dynamic, highly motivated professional with expert interpersonal communications and leadership skills for the full-time position of Director, Resource Development. The Director, Resource Development creates and oversees the implementation of a strategic approach to resource management, which includes annual giving and direct mail, major gifts and planned giving, grant programs, lotteries, events, donor stewardship, new donor acquisition, corporate donations, social enterprise, and in-kind resources. All strategies and activities will align with the strategic direction of the organization and is in accordance with ethical fundraising principles. They will also be an active participant in the successful execution of that plan, and will continuously ensure that all team members are held accountable to the successful delivery of financial and strategic objectives.  The Director serves as a key member of the organization’s senior management team.

 

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the development of the annual giving campaign, soliciting both one time and recurring contributions to expand the donor base.
  • Collaborate with the Marketing and Communications department and external contractors on the execution of semi-annual direct mail campaigns.
  • Develop and implement comprehensive major gifts and planned giving program, and steward existing donor base to grow individual supporters to this level.
  • Oversee the grants strategy; ensure that opportunities for program funding across the enterprise are leveraged to minimize cash outlay for business operations.
  • Oversee the lotteries strategy, collaborating with Restore, and Marketing and Communications on 50/50 and other cash raffles throughout the calendar year.
  • Lead the monetization of all internal Habitat Edmonton public facing and private events, including but not limited to annual golf tournament, build centric Adopt-a-Day activations, annual supporters event, and third party fundraising events.
  • Manage the relationship and event execution with external event contractor for major events (golf tournament, etc.) to ensure that all event logistics are looked after and the events are reflective of Habitat standards and expectations.
  • Lead collaboration with other Habitat departments (Marketing and Communications, Community and Volunteer Engagement, etc.) to ensure effective delivery of Habitat events in line with brand standards and stakeholder expectations of excellence.
  • Develop and oversee implementation of effective stewardship strategies for all corporate and individual donors.
  • Oversee a robust donor acquisition strategy that ensures a consistently full donor pipeline that will support the organization's resource development goals and financial targets.
  • Provide leadership support for new projects and initiatives that support incremental revenue generation towards the organization's financial targets. 
  • Support Restore team in the solicitation of business product donations for resale from existing donor base.
  • Cultivate, steward, and manage a portfolio of corporate and individual donor relationships.
  • Lead, manage, and develop the staff of the Resource Development department.
  • Identify needs for staff development and provide the training needed to improve staff knowledge and skills.
  • Uphold and grow the cultural priorities of Habitat for Humanity Edmonton within the Resource Development department, and take steps to foster a diverse and inclusive working environment.
  • Support the Vice President, Sustainability and Impact in the implementation and delivery of an annual resource development plan that aligns with the strategic direction of the organization and is in accordance with ethical fundraising principles.
  • Collaborate with the Vice President, Sustainability and Impact on the development of an annual Resource Development budget that meets the organization's needs for fiscal capacity. 
  • Hold the Resource Development department accountable to these financial commitments and ensure the development pipeline is robust enough to meet quarterly and annual targets in a cost effective manner.

Qualifications

This position requires a highly motivated, professional individual who demonstrates the ability to manage multiple competing priorities from diverse business units, stewarding various departments towards the delivery of positive strategic change to achieve a common organizational mission. They possess strong interpersonal communication skills for interactions with the media, colleagues, senior leadership, board members, employees, business and community partners, volunteers, and other organizational stakeholders. With an entrepreneurial spirit, they will collaborate with the VP to develop and deliver a resource development strategy that furthers the organization’s mission in a sustainable way. Other qualifications include:

  • Have a minimum of 3-5 years of managerial experience with a proven ability to manage departmental operations and execute strategic priorities, with a minimum of 10 years of resource development experience.
  • Possess a broad base of experience in fundraising programs including new donor acquisition, major gifts and planned giving, annual giving and direct mail, grant programs, lotteries, corporate and individual donations, and events.

 

  • Have a strong financial acumen, and the ability to oversee the delivery of a resource development budget that funds the operations of a complex and rapidly evolving organization.

 

  • Demonstrate strong leadership capacity and the ability to communicate and collaborate with a variety of teams and personalities within those teams, resulting in the achievement of shared objectives and/or milestones.

 

  • Demonstrate a commitment to financial accountability and the ability to interpret and explain fiscal data to team members and hold them to account to department deliverables.

 

  • Demonstrate proven ability to engage with empathy with all program stakeholders at all levels, regardless of situation or background.

 

  • Possess the ability to thrive under pressure and manage multiple projects with demonstrated flexibility, adaptability, and excellent organizational and planning skills.
  • Possess integrity and upright business ethics.
  • Must be bondable and have a satisfactory police criminal record check.
