Role Overview

Community Fundraising and Events (CFE) is a nation-wide program with staff and volunteers located in centers across Canada. The team engages in a wide variety of fundraising activities including national peer-to-peer fundraising events, traditional events such golf tournaments and galas, supporting third-party fundraisers on behalf of Diabetes Canada (DC), and working with local community organizations such as service clubs. 

The Executive Director, Community Fundraising & Events drives revenue growth through working to create synergies across all DC channels. You have a strong background in planning, organizing, launching, delivering and tracking six and seven figure national and community events. Closely collaborating with the DC Corporate Partnerships Team you will help engage, cultivate and steward major corporate sponsors as part of a cross-organizational team.  You strive to create a high-performance culture, are experienced in managing a large team of diverse and dispersed individuals and are effective at communicating and training events teams on best-practice.    

Location: Flexible work arrangement policy in place, allows for hybrid environment and remote work. This role can be fully remote, accepting applications across Canada, if candidates are able to meet the needs of a national team. 

This role includes, but not limited to:

  • Oversee all CFE programs, ensuring revenue growth while managing expenses to maximize net proceeds available to Mission.   
  • Recruit, train and provide ongoing leadership to all CFE teams.
  • Identify ways to maximize community fundraising programs like cause marketing, Golf Tournaments and Galas, investigate and develop new opportunities and innovative fundraising initiatives.
  • Support the development and implementation of new and existing Peer-to-Peer national fundraising events such as Lace Up for Diabetes.
  • Manage a large team of individuals across Canada as part of DC’s Fund Development Team, ensuring effective collaboration, coordination, and use of best-practice fundraising.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with top-tier event prospects, sponsors and service clubs, in collaboration with other teams and relationship managers.
  • Participate as an active member of the Fund Development Leadership Team, contributing to the development of strategic plans as well as the annual budget.
  • Apply a continuous improvement approach to overseeing a disciplined approach to KPI’s, prospect pipeline development and relationship management.
  • Ensure tracking of CFE prospects through the stages of cultivation, stewardship and renewal through consistent team utilization of DC’s Customer Relationship Management software.
  • Maintain accurate timely and documented budgets and profitability forecasts supported by reports for the SVP, Development and the Senior Leadership Team.
  • Maintain an in-depth understanding of all new and on-going programs in order to speak knowledgably and enthusiastically about the work of Diabetes Canada.
  • Employ a professional and collaborative approach to growing strong working relationships with internal stakeholders and external partners.

The ideal candidate possesses:

  • Seasoned fundraising professional with 10-15 years of experience across a range of portfolios with experience in a large, complex not-for-profit organization.
  • University-educated professional or with an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
  • Professional fundraiser with a proven track record of successful relationship management and meeting or exceeding fundraising targets.
  • Results-driven, self-starter, and highly motivated with a leadership and interpersonal style that fosters constructive and productive relationships with diverse constituencies.
  • Skilled relationship manager, able to interact with high-level donors, build relationships, and maintain a high level of confidentiality.
  • Strong leader with significant management experience able to inspire a team and collaborate and support colleagues across the organization to achieve results.
  • Seasoned change management champion who thrives in a dynamic environment.
  • Compelling communicator, applying excellent written and oral communication skills to synthesize complex information into compelling and strategic material.
