Plans, develops and delivers English as Another Language (EAL) classes based on learner needs and program goals. Delivers in-person, online and hybrid classes. Tracks and reports key success indicators for learners.

 

The Opportunity

  • Prepares modules, lesson plans, and daily activities consistent with the goals of the program and the needs of the learners
  • Facilitates class and perform individual needs assessments
  • Offers regular feedback and insight to learners
  • Records and reports attendance regularly and prepare and submit reports as required
  • Participates in team and organizational, professional development opportunities and staff activities
  • Attends staff meetings and becomes familiar with programs, activities, and other staff, programs and service offered at EMCN so appropriate referrals can be made to support learners
  • Collaborates with colleagues in a mutually supportive manner

 

What It Takes

To do this job satisfactorily, the EAL Instructor must be able to mornings, afternoons or evenings, varying shifts for 4-6 hours per week.

 

While all backgrounds will be considered, the most helpful history will involve applied experience, knowledge, training and post-secondary learning in:

  • A degree in Education or Arts with a TESL or ATESL Certificate;
  • Two years of experience working in a culturally diverse adult ESL educational setting;
  • Proficient with computers, software and digital platforms.

 

Skills and Competencies:

  • Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of the complexities of newcomers' and refugees' settlement journeys.
  • Ability to build a strong relationship with learners and stakeholders from a strength-based and human-centred approach.
  • Confident group-based program design and facilitation skills.
  • Networker, connector and collaborator within and outside EMCN to ensure learners are aware of services and program and can access ongoing support and resources.
