Edmonton Meals on Wheels is hiring an EVENING FOOD SERVICE WORKER

to support the preparation of home cooked meals for homebound and vulnerable Edmontonians.

 

Edmonton Meals on Wheels is a local non-profit agency that provides home-delivered meals, other food services and social connections to a diverse mix of people.  We’re well-known for our exceptional food services and creative, innovative strategies that engage the community in various events, partnerships and volunteer opportunities.  We are looking for an EVENING FOOD SERVICE WORKER  to support our mission of providing nutritious meals which support health, wellbeing and independence of Edmontonians.

 

The Role:

An exciting opportunity exists for an Evening Food Service Worker. You would be working in a team environment, assuring that our clientele receives nutritious meals, desserts and snacks and filling in for staff vacancies washing dishes and receiving and storing goods.  Working with a diverse group of kitchen volunteers will also be part of the duties you will assist us in moving forward with our strategic goals and client growth.

 

Responsibilities

  • Supports daily food production, portioning, packaging, and related kitchen processes, ensuring high quality meals are produced with minimal waste
  • Ensures all safe food handling practices, sanitation and cleanliness practices are adhered to always
  • Supports dessert, sandwich, salad preparation, and other food item packaging and assembling
  • Moves and dates purchased goods as requested
  • Assists with responsibilities of ware washer as required
  • Assists with order picking, labelling and checking frozen orders
  • Supports cleaning the kitchen and receiving area
  • Demonstrates excellent time management, organizational and interpersonal skills
  • Related duties as assigned

Qualifications

  • 1-year related experience. Experience in high-volume kitchens is preferred
  • Able to fully participate in all kitchen duties in a calm, professional manner
  • Organized and able to handle multiple projects under tight timelines
  • Food Safe Certification preferred
  • Police Information Check with Vulnerable Sector
  • Current Standard First Aid with CPR certification is an asset
  • Physically able to climb stairs, walk, stand for full shift, lift, and carry up to 30 pounds
  • Excellent written and verbal English communication skills essential

  • Adapts to a fast-paced, quickly changing environment and is pleasant, and professional
  • Working with volunteers from diverse backgrounds, supporting kitchen activities daily

Hours, Salary & Benefits

  • Monday to Friday, 1:30 pm to 9:30 pm, excluding Statutory Holidays – full time hours with extended health benefits plan plus RRSP employer contributions
  • Rates start at $15.25 per hour based on candidate skill and experience
