About us:

Founded in 1960, the Youth Services Bureau of Ottawa (YSB) is one of the largest and most comprehensive non-profit agencies in Ottawa and a registered charity. It provides mental health services, employment programs, emergency shelter, community, health and housing services, and justice programs to youth in the Ottawa area, serving between 2,500 and 3,000 at‑risk individuals aged 12+ and their families every month. YSB employs 350 caring professionals in a unionized environment in over 26 locations across Ottawa.

Under the general direction of the Assistant Director of Mental Health and reporting to the Coordinator- Bridges Program, the Social Worker/Therapist is responsible for the provision of intake, individual, family and group clinical services as well as discharge planning and follow up.  The work will be conducted in accordance with policies and directives established within the YSB.

What you will do:

  • Deliver individual, family, group clinical services to clients of The Step Up Step Down Program
  • Deliver services to clients as established by the Step Up Step Down inter-disciplinary team which include intake, discharge planning, follow up and family supports
  • Support clients and families to identify short and long term goals & strategies for goal achievement.
  • Utilize recognized interventions to support clients and families in the achievement of established goals
  • Advocate with and on behalf of clients and families as required
  • Liaise with CHEO and community partners for the purpose of facilitating care and prompt connection to appropriate follow-up services
  • Attend and participate in supervision & clinical group supervision
  • Participate in training to ensure ongoing development of skills and abilities – including YSB required training
  • Ensure both electronic and physical client files are maintained current within established guidelines/policies & procedures.
  • Meet standards defined in The Step Up Step Down Program Procedural Manual / Policy and Procedures Manual
  • Contribute to program and services development and evaluation. 
  • Ensure timely submission of all administrative work in accordance with YSB practices
  • Collaborate and network with community agencies as appropriate and as requested
  • Ensure familiarity with all pertinent legislation
  • Follow safe work practices as established by the Bureau and the program.

 

This opportunity may be right for you if you have:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Social Work and current registration with the Ontario College of Social Workers; Degree in Counselling Psychology and current registration with the CRPO 
  • Minimum two years related experience providing individual, family and group counseling services to youth experiencing symptoms of mental illness
  • Exposure to working with clients experiencing anxiety, depression and emotional dysregulation
  • Experience delivering family counseling services using systemic/ecological or CBT approaches
  • Experience in MI and/or DBT will be considered an asset 
  • Demonstrated ability to work in a context of an inter-disciplinary team 
  • Demonstrated decision making and problem solving skills.
  • Oral and written fluency in English is essential. Fluency in French is preferred
  • Availability and ability to work evenings, flexible hours. 
  • Demonstrated computer skills
  • Valid driver’s license and access to a vehicle
