Black Creek Community Health Centre (BCCHC) is a community based non-profit organization that provides primary health care and health promotion programs and services to community residents. Please note that working on Saturday is a requirement for this position.

Job Summary

The lactation consultant provides prenatal and postnatal breastfeeding education/counselling and facilitates a breastfeeding support group.

 

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform breast feeding assessment, breastfeeding education/counselling to pregnant and new mothers
  • Facilitate an ongoing Breastfeeding Support Group
  • Educate staff and lactating women and their families to promote a breastfeeding friendly centre
  • Act as a referral resource for both prenatal and postnatal women
  • Establish and maintain links with other local resources
  • Handle other duties as assigned


Qualifications

  • Current International Board-Certified Lactation Consultant (IBCLC)
  • Three to five years relevant experience as a Lactation Consultant
  • Demonstrate knowledge, skills and ability in the assessment of women, during both prenatal and postpartum periods who are willing to breastfeed, or are breastfeeding
  • Demonstrate ability to facilitate learning for woman and families based on their individual needs
  • Demonstrate ability to work collaboratively with a team
  • Computer competency and experience working with Electronic Medical Records – PSS is an asset
