We are looking for a part-time (20 hours a week) Family Literacy Facilitator for our Learning Starts at Home Program. This is a 10-month contract position. The Facilitator is responsible for lesson planning, materials preparation, and delivery of the Learning Starts at Home Program. To ensure that the program reflects participants’ needs and goals, the facilitator must deliver learner-centred programming and report regularly on program activities and participant progress. Program facilitators at CanLearn are also expected to keep up with changes in the field of adult education, integrate new professional development learning into their lesson planning, and, together with their colleagues, maintain through development and innovation programming that achieves the highest standards in adult education practice.

 

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Providing individualized, in-home support to disadvantaged families with children ages birth to eight through activities that promote intergenerational literacy development
  • Preparing lesson plans and materials that reflect the program’s learner-centred approach
  • Assessing, tracking, and reporting participant progress
  • Completing reports and documenting activities as required
  • Providing support to learners on an individual basis as required
  • Creating a safe, friendly, and engaging learning environment that fosters independent and group learning
  • Participating as an effective member of the literacy team
  • Attend scheduled meetings and training sessions
  • Other duties as assigned

 

QUALIFICATION AND SKILLS

  • Degree or Diploma in Education or Human Services
  • Preference is given to applicants with relevant training or PD and experience facilitating Adult Foundational Learning
  • Must be able to work effectively with diverse populations
  • Must be confident with in-person and virtual program delivery
  • Must have excellent interpersonal relationship-building skills
