Healthy families in healthy communities.
The Family Connector (FC) provides in-home and community-based support to marginalized children and families who have Children’s Services involvement. This includes a significant proportion of First Nations, Metis and Inuit families, as well as, Refugee and first-generation Canadian families that have experienced the impacts of trauma and multigenerational abuse and neglect. Family Connectors build therapeutic relationships with parents through the use of basic counselling skills and a trauma informed care approach; thereby increasing capacity and executive functioning. The FC identifies, strengthens, and reconnects relationships with family, kin, and friends in an effort to create a plan that addresses long term support for the wellbeing, reunification and safety of the children. FCs work as a member of a collaborative team and are ultimately responsible for the coordination, initiation and mobilization of internal and external resources required to meet the service plan objective as determined with Children’s Services and the families we work with.
