This role will appeal to the HR professional seeking a chance for their expertise makes a difference in the community. Under the direction of the Director of Human Resources and Quality Assurance, the Human Resources Manager is accountable for the ongoing administration, co-ordination and delivery of all human resources functions including recruitment, onboarding, health and safety, labour relations, diversity equity & inclusion, employee development & engagement and HR advising. This role oversees the Recruitment Specialist position to support the mission, strategic plan, and operations of ConneXions by ensuring staffing needs are met in all programs.

Key Responsibilities

  • Leadership of the Human Resources department including supervision and coaching of the Recruitment Specialist, Canada Summer Jobs hires with the potential for others
  • Labour relations including playing an advisory role in the interpretation of the collective agreement and representing the Employer in the handling of grievances
  • Plan and implement staff development programs including orientation for new employees and ongoing training for all employees
  • Direction of employee health and safety programs to ensure compliance with WorkSafe BC and CARF accreditation standards
  • Development of annual business objectives as part of the continuous quality improvement framework
  • Track work injury claims/medical leaves, co-ordinate Return to Work Plans with DMI
  • Ensure the use of HR Best Practices in all human resources systems
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of industry trends and relevant legislation
  • Maintain open and positive communication with Program Managers and Directors to stay current with staffing needs
  • Contribute to continuous quality improvement of HR systems and processes
  • Perform other related duties as required including special projects

Knowledge, Skills and Experience

We are seeking a high energy candidate who is a committed mid-level HR Professional. As an ideal candidate, you have a passion for working in fast paced environments that require the full range of your human resources acumen.

Your organizational, time management and financial management skills are well developed. You apply a high degree of ethics, discretion, and critical thinking skills to your practice.

You have proven excellence in communication skills (oral, written, facilitation and interpersonal). You can maintain respectful and professional relationships with key stakeholders including supported individuals, employees, managers, senior managers, board members, union representatives, sector associates and vendors.

Qualifications and Experience

  • A degree or diploma in Human Resources or a related field with relevant experience
  • CPHR designation (or CPHR Candidate status)
  • Minimum of three years’ experience delivering generalist HR functions
  • Knowledge and experience in Labour Relations
  • Management experience in a non-profit, unionized environment is preferred

  • Reliable vehicle and valid Class 5 BC Driver’s License
  • Satisfactory Reference Checks
  • Successful completion of ConneXions orientation
  • Other requirements as detailed in ConneXions Policies and Procedures

Hours of Work:  Hours of work per week: 37.5  

Schedule: 8:30 -4:30 Monday to Friday (this position may involve evening and weekend work)
