Position Summary:

Reporting to the CEO, the Chief Operating Officer is a collaborative member of the Executive Leadership Team (ELT) and the Departmental Management Team (DMT) and is accountable for providing leadership and operational direction consistent with the Indus’ strategic goals and managing execution to deliver desired outcomes. This includes the overall planning, development, delivery and effectiveness of programs, and the effectiveness of day-to-day program operations. The COO will build and mentor a high performing team responsible for a service-oriented culture that is responsive to the ongoing and emerging needs of the communities served by Indus. They will maintain professional relationships with community stakeholders and funders at all levels and stay current on region wide initiatives and developments in the sector.

Responsibilities and Duties: (but not limited to)

Leadership
* Build and lead an effective and cohesive senior management team with effective succession planning.
* Evaluate the senior management team.
* Represent Indus to government, regulatory authorities, funders and the general public as delegated by and in collaboration with the CEO.
* Manage the vision and long-term operational strategy for Indus.
* Effectively communicate and implement the Strategic Plan as approved by the Indus’ Board and CEO
* Develop and put in place operating plans and budgets for each program area.
* Ensure the development of Indus’ business case for renewed and new funding as well as managing the grant proposal process to meet the organization’s vision and Strategic Plan.
* To collaborate and support government initiatives such as Ontario Health Teams in the transition of health care.
Operations and controls
* Oversee operations, privacy, facilities and maintenance, and labour relations: letters of agreement, contracts, leases, and other legal documents and agreements.
* Organizational reporting and monitoring: provide guidance and leadership through management of Indus metrics and measurement reporting process.
* Office management: oversee administrative and facility functions for all Indus sites, ensuring smooth daily operations of offices and program sites.
* Board of Directors: in concert with the CEO, provide staff support and guidance to Indus board and act as staff liaison to relevant board committees.
Communication and Reporting
* Liaise with the CEO and keep them informed of all issues emerging.
* Attend Indus’ board and committee meetings as needed.
* Provide report to the CEO to be tabled at the board meeting outlining program, compliance and facility/maintenance issues.
* Work with the senior management team to ensure that a system is in place for effective communication (including annual mandate letters) within the management team and other employees.
Management
* Maintain an effective management team and to ensure that remuneration packages are appropriate.
* Responsible for all dealings with Indus’ staff and their appointments both internally and externally.
Programs & Services
* Oversee the planning, implementation, and evaluation of the organization’s programs and services, including statistical reporting compliance.
* Ensure that the programs and services offered by the organization contribute to the organization’s mission and Strategic Plan.
* Oversee the planning, implementation, execution, and evaluation of special projects.
Financial Management and Operational Oversight
* Working with the Director provide input to all financial and business planning activities.
Human Resources
* Working with the Director provide input to the human resource functions for Indus

Qualifications and Skills:

* Minimum of an undergraduate degree in Business/Public Administration, ideally with a Masters or equivalent.
* Strong operational experience and business acumen: ideally has worked in a senior management role for 10+ years in a socially responsible organization with progressive experience with at least three years’ experience in operational/administrative management.
* Demonstrated experience in financial planning and analysis, human resources, information technology, managing legal/risk issues and project management.
* Skills should include organizational development, personnel management, budget and resource development, and tactical planning; demonstrated success developing and monitoring systems to manage both operational and agency activities that involve high levels of collaboration.
* Excellent people skills, with an ability to partner with a dynamic leadership team.
* Personal qualities of integrity, credibility, diplomacy and commitment to the mission of Indus.
* Flexible and able to multi-task; can work within an ambiguous, fast-moving environment, while also driving toward clarity and solutions; demonstrated resourcefulness in setting priorities and guiding investment in people and systems.
* Ethical and independent, demonstrating a high standard of professionalism and respect for confidentiality and privacy.
* High level judgment and initiative in problem resolution of complex issues in both people and operational areas.
* Experience working at a policy level and driving advocacy initiatives within an established network on behalf of individuals, families and caregivers.
* Demonstrated ability and experience developing grant/program funding proposals to government, foundations, corporate and private funders.
* Experience with facilities management and related maintenance issues.
* Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
* Experience and sensitivity in dealing with members of diverse cultural and racial backgrounds.
* Ability to multi-task in a fast-paced environment, diplomatic and tactful conflict resolution and problem-solving abilities.
* Must be Proficient in MS Office applications, internet and databases.
* Ability to work in a culturally diverse environment and a strong understanding of inclusive and equitable service delivery.
* Commitment to continuing self-development and continuous quality improvement.
* Ability to work flexible hours including evenings, weekends and to work from any one of Indus’s work-sites.
* Valid Driver’s License with reliable transportation.
* Successful candidate must provide a Vulnerable Screening Check prior to commencing employment.
