Job Title: Supervisor, Refugee & Immigrant Counselling in Schools (NEW INITIATIVE)

This supervisory role is an exciting opportunity to implement an innovative new program in partnership with the Calgary Board of Education, providing leadership to a team of school-based counsellors working with Immigrant and Refugee students in grades 7-12. This role provides supervisory leadership to the division and plays a key role in implementing Kindred’s strategic plan. Imperative to the Supervisor position is the ability to monitor systems, processes and protocols that support best practice, outcome measurement and program evaluation. The Supervisor is responsible for the oversight of a new program providing single session and on-going counselling to Immigrant and Refugee youth and building capacity in the school environment to support the mental health needs of the population. The portfolio-related programming, includes clinical and administrative supervision of staff, program development and refinement, and is engaged in providing leadership at a program and agency level. The supervisor is also responsible for managing and stewarding partnerships and participating in a variety of multidisciplinary committees and service partnerships, as appropriate. Some evening work is required. This position reports to the Manager, Family Mental Health and Social Inclusion.
Clinical: Provide clinical supervision to a team of graduate level counsellors who are providing a trauma-informed, barrier free, systemically oriented clinical service to a specialized population of Immigrant and Refugee students and their families. Given the specialized nature of the work, the supervisor will have the knowledge and ability to guide the team of counsellors in their clinical practices related to the lived experiences of immigrant and refugee youth. Experience with and understanding of single session counselling are an asset.
Program: Supervise and train others to ensure high quality service delivery and continuity. The Supervisor assists with program outcome measurements and evaluation and ensure adherence to ethical and best practice standards.
Administrative: Responsible for human resource practices including but not limited to recruitment, development of retention strategies, performance management practices and staff training and development.
Agency: Contributing to, and providing leadership for enacting the Agency strategic direction and being a culture keeper for our highly engaged and successful workplace completes this important role. The supervisor also participates on divisional and agency wide leadership teams and committees and represents the Agency in the community with a commitment to strong collaboration and effective partnerships.
•Graduate degree in Social Work/Psychology required and corresponding regulatory body registration required;
•Minimum of five years’ experience in counselling required;
•Experience working with immigrant and refugee families;
•Experience working in a school setting or within school systems is an asset;
•Strong interpersonal, collaborative and customer service skills;
•Minimum of two years’ experience with clinical supervision, program development, and administrative competencies;
•Prior experience with quality assurance, data management, program outcome measurements and evaluation and co-creation of reports is an asset;
•Expectation of flexibility with hours to meet the needs of direct reports; some evening work required, must be available to work one evening a week;
•Ability to work independently on-site, as well as virtually;
•Single session experience is an asset;
•Takes a posture of Cultural humility in working with diverse populations;
•Core Brain Story Certification through Alberta Family Wellness Initiative is an asset;
•Valid driver’s license, clean driver’s abstract and use of a vehicle with appropriate insurance;
•Strongly encouraged to have a current (completed in last 6 months) Police Information Check and Alberta Intervention Check.
